Ok so following on from the graphics card post i made a week or two ago.

Got the card working, its made a hell of a difference, can now play some relatively new games on decent specs so im quite happy.

Only problem is that my processor is now holding me back. I have a huge Hard drive, loads of ram etc, decent graphics card - just only an old AMD 3500? processor.

My PC is a Compaq Presario 2019UK and im trying to find out if it is possible to replace the processor in it.

Was hoping to go up to a Dual Core unit if possible to make my games run better...

Any advice / ideas?

Downloads CPUZ, will let you know a what motherboard you have and what socket processor that you have and give you an idea of what you can upgrade to. An AMD 3500 will either be socket 754, 939 or AM2. Hopefully its will be one of the latter 2. Let us know you we can advise you further.

I use https://www.partmaster.co.uk/cgi-bin/home.pl?camp_id=techguys for trying to find out what parts i can use, ie laptop memory etc.

You can search for random items or search for your particular computer and it will tell you what parts you can use (that they/fecaes world sell)

Dual or Quad core will only give a noticeable improvement on multi-thread games (games that can run on more than one core at a time).

Most games don't do this currently, but it's well worth the investment as more and more games are being multi-threaded. Either way it'll make your PC a lot faster in general having more than one core Thumbs Up
