Hi
I found a used Rieju Rs1 that hasn't even been derestricted yet with the oil injection still on it. I know many people have the injection systems taken off... but is it necessary to achieve high speeds?
Also, what other steps are needed to fully derestrict the bike?

Thanks

Yea many people take them off for safety because they dont trust the oil injection system to work properly or they think it can fall into the engine and blow it up??
Idk if any of that is true... thats just what I heard.

What do I need to do to fully derestrict a Rieju... can I do it myself?

Well I have never heard of many people taking them off. As for it falling in engine and blowing it up . . That statement they told you speaks a thousand words. Mr. Green

Taking the oil pump off won't make the bike faster.

Hi

Some bikes they are taken off and then run on premix instead if the oil supply needs to be increased to more than the pump can supply. Derestricting you should be pretty safe.

Running on premix will be a pain, and also have more issues such as virtually no oil supply when you are slowing from speed with the throttle closed.

All the best

Keith

Yeah it's only on bikes used mainly off road or on a road bike that has been tuned or fitted with a bigger capacity top end and needs more oil supply than the oil injection pump could safely deliver, that are commonly converted to pre-mix.

You may find some trials, enduro and trail bikes that have been converted to pre-mix, and if it's done properly then there should be no issues. I had a Yamaha TY175 that had been converted to pre-mix. On a competition off roader, it could save weight, reduce complication or risk of getting damaged when the bike is dropped etc, or just make it easier to re-fuel (If everyone else is running pre-mix then you just use the same fuel can etc).

On some 2stroke road bikes i have heard rumours and or information over the years about the oil pumps innability to provide enough oil, usually on multi cylinder bikes, that are a reason for engine seizures occuring etc. the 2 examples i have heard about that come to mind are:

1. Yamaha 350 LC/YPVS. (people sometimes say that the left pot doesnt get enough oil).

2. Kawasaki AR125. Apparently the std oil pump cannot provide enough oil for much more power than the full power version of the bike makes as std.

Im sure that this can be debated and that other people have heard of other examples or stories about different bikes etc.

That would get annoying having to premix the oil and gas... I think I'll chance it falling in the cylinder and keep it on Very Happy

Thanks

Having had one of the 1st of these in the country, that is strange. As Yamaha actually recalled them as the pumps were set too high and were delivering far more oil than was needed. Even after the recall they still run fine.... 25K i did on mine with no hint of a problem or even having to rebuild the engine
