Can someone tell me if this is the right part?

I bike I went to look at, they say the speedometer doesnt work, and needs a replacement Speedo Ring/drive. The link below is to the honda parts. I am guessing that the speedo drive is No 13. Does this look like it? £57 seems mighty steep for such a small component. I've checked the part number of this on David Silver Spares, and it says its discontinued? Seems rather crazy on a City Fly thats only a 2002 plate

Hopefully I am looking at completely the wrong component.

That is the speedo drive (although check that the bit that is broken isn't just the bent bit of metal that drives that).

Surprised it is discontinued. Although possible that it has been superceeded and they don't have the new part number.

To replace it, would one need the entire Speedo Drive assembly (no13), or would the washers be all thats needed? I'm beginning to wonder whether I should not bother with the bike now. When viewing the bike, the guy told me that the part is only about £10 from honda. I guess I will know the truth of this when I start calling up tomorrow morning.

I wonder if any other speedo drives could be used in its place, seeing as it is discontinued. (so so says David Silver Spares website).

Depends what has failed. Might just be a cheap bit of bent metal. Take the speedo drive off and check what has actually failed.

Thanks Keith, I'll have to investigate this further tomorrow morning. Be on the phone with the honda dealers to check for the parts. Maybe the speedo drive has been superseeded by another part (which might be on another bike) which could still be retro fitted?

Quite likely is a superceeded part, and quite possibly not with one from another bike. Would be very dodgy for a company to no longer produce spare parts for a 6 year old vehicle.

What your saying is perhaps they have another part, for the bike, which probably has a different part number, and has been superceeded (probably because the newer part is an improvement on the previous) etc..

Yep. Could be for any reason. Could be a change for later models of the same bike (eg, they have built a filter in) and no point in supplying both the old and new version.

Right, gave honda a call.
It can either be the gear for the speedo drive, or the complete housing. the gear is £1.73 and the complete housing is £57
but they have not got the gear in stock, so that will take afew days to arrive

I went to my local MOT/repair/parts shop to get them to order in the speedo gear for me. But there supplier checked on there computer and said that the part had been discontinued, and they're going to investigate further with honda on why its the case...

Seems odd. I'm thinking that perhaps my local shops supplier are not aware of a possible new part that might have a different part number?

Maybe I should just buy from a honda dealer. I really want to get the speedo working before monday next week.
