It's a Proton Persona, which is based on a Mitsubishi Colt.

To be honest, I don't like recommending obscure cars to people, but I can't think of anything at the moment that is a common problem on them. They are based on a Mitsubishi Colt, which are actually quite reliable.

How much is the asking price for said beast ?

I think my mate said he's gonna have a word later to see if he can knock it down a little.

As a cheap winter hack I don't think you'll go far wrong with that to be honest. It's pretty cheap motoring really.

Obviously a test drive is in order to check for any knocks/rattles as usual.

As I said in the other 'Proton' thread: don't know much about them, except that taxi drivers love them. There must be a good reason for that Thumbs Up

Before buying it just do the checks you'd do with any car:

- Engine should start immediately. Any unusual smoke or rattles = walk away.
- When driving with steering at full lock there should be no clunking - this indicates a knackered CV joint
- Check the brakes work and no leaks at calliper or master cylinder.
- Check all gears engage smoothly and the clutch doesn't slip - drive it up a hill in 4th, if engine revs up but car doesn't speed up, it needs a new clutch.
- If it has power steering make sure that works as it should, as problems can be expensive to fix
- When was the cambelt last replaced? This should be on a sticker on the cylinder head, it's important that you keep on top of it. It can be quite expensive to have done.
- Check for rust. It's based on a jap car and jap cars rust.
