piaggio typhoon 50 . no power

Can anyone help, just fired up my moped after a year lay off and it struggles to start, and even when it does it has no power. Have replaced the spark plug with a new one and the mixture looks right (by the colour of the plug). Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks

Hi, just talking to Stokes about a similar issue.

when you leave a 2 smoke to stand for ages some have been known to end up there piston rings not having a great fit in the barrel (old ones mainly) we have compression tested them and they have been down,
a quick test to see if it is the rings sticking in is to drop about half to a full egg cup full of 2 stroke oil down the port and turn it over a few times and leave it a little, this can loosen the rings.
stick the plug back in and fire it up.

I would just stick a new plug in anyway,, there about a fiver and dont last long in the first place.


if its still having issues post again but please tell us or take a photo of your plug, it will say alot about whats going off in there.

if you get it to start, try reving it out to max on the stand (dont forget to hold the front brake on)
if you think it isnt reving out fully you could have other issues.
if it is but when you sit on it its low on power you are either a big tub of lard ,,, or it could be new belt and rollers time.

shouldnt cost more than 40 at a shop to have a service, It would be worth it and avoid the hastle,,
take it to your local piagio dealer, there the best ones to talk to.

Hey Teaman, thanks for your help.. I have tried putting some 2 stroke oil in the cylinder and left it for about 30 mins then fired up.. it does rev out some times but as soon as you put a load on it then the power disapears.

So basically while on its stand it will rev out to max, but then I have noticed that while revving it it sometimes also boggs down resulting in major power loss (just like when i am riding it).

I have taken a picture of the new spark plug after running it see pic.

To me it 'feels' like electrical problem ?.
