Hi

I was wondering if anyone had used power pills on their bikes and if so did they notice an increase in performance, fuel ecomony etc.?

Cheers

Phil

I personally think they are a waste of money. If you do get an increase it will be marginal and really your fueling/timing etc would have to be adjusted to suit the new octane rating of the petrol.

Most of the performance gain would be in your head.

Save your money mate

Thats my Penny Coin worth.

Hi

Tried them in the Bimota (which tends to only get used occasionally, so might benefit from something to clean the carbs out a bit). Noticed no difference at all to performance.

All the best

Keith

Some mag did a test a while ago and they did seem to help on older, high mileage bikes a bit. Though I suspect, as Keith mentioned, it's the cleaning properties that helped... a squrt of redex would probably have done the same thing Smile.

I use redex and it's hugely improved morning starting, cold running and the response of the engine when cold - top stuff!

Don't know anyting about power pills though - sorry!

Hi Mr C,
from the numerous scooter forums that i used to visit in the shameful days of owning a Peugeot Slowfight100, i heard that Nitrox was a very poor brand of Octane booster, and it did not raise the Octane point of the fuel as high as other brands of fuel treatment, such as Silkolene proboost etc. I think that Optimax/BP Ultimate when a decent octane booter was added was at least 100RON, which is about as good as you can get. Just out of interest does you 12R use a programable piggyback ECU to allow timing curve adjustment, i would guess that at the bhp you running at its almost certain that you do use some sort of programable engine managment system?

it has a Powercommander 3r fitted

custom mapped at BigCC

but has an extra shot of 5% fuel at 100% throttle above 8000 rpm to account for RAM air effects at high speed

and 3 degrees of advance from 8000 to 11000 rpm from memory

interesting comments about Nitrox - I really had no idea so I picked the one in the best coloured bottle Embarassed

I intend to try a range this year and see if any of them make any difference

Try them out by all means, but ive heard from several people that Silkolene Proboost is very good, but im sure that there are other additives that are just as good. Me wonders if its vaugely possible to detect any performance improvement through the butt dyno, when you have nearly 190bhp to start with!

it's not the butt dyno that counts

it's the extra 2 or 3 mph that you may get at 198mph that makes all the difference

I mean 199 just won't do will it ..? Rolling Eyes

Point taken mate, that last mph really needs finding and quickly lol!
I was a bit like that with my old speedy100, but then i only had 11.4bhp r/w so i guess i needed to be looking for every last mph too! At one point i ran it with a 1ltr bottle of Octanne booster tipped in that me mate gave me, that was manufactured by (Nitrous Oxide Systems), so it had to be faster than with other makes! I think that was the one and only time i got a true 72mph out of it!
