Well the silly season seems to have kicked in early for the pedestrians in Reading.
In particular the crossing near the prudential building where they seem to have lost all common sense.

The last 3 nights on my way home heading towards the crossing numerous foot muppets have just blatantly walked across on the green traffic light causing many a brown trouser moment.
Especially bad in the greasy damp conditions we are currently suffering.
Its bad enough in the car where i may sustain damage to my bumper but on the bike its potentially a lot worse.

Just cannot understand why they think they can cross when traffic clearly has right of way.

rant over ...................... for now.

Its a light controlled crossing. When the green man shows they cross when he turns red they don't.

Not rocket science by any means.

Best is when they leap back to the curb with a look of disbelief on their face as some poor sod has just left more rubber than a condom factory on the road.

It's probably why the PRU workers have such great benefit packages.

Mr. Green Thumbs Up

edit: That road is not particularly friendly anyway, some of the routes are a little bit fast Razz

Nice, I used to hate going into Brighton as the numpties per sq/mile were very high. They practically ignored you walking down the road.

One off the redline did tend to make them move a little though which was good.

I've had a few over the last week walk out in front of me in the car, I've never hit anyone with a freelander yet but I'm pretty sure it'll hurt them more than it.

Your hooter isn't just for pretty girls, a double tap lets the numpties know they're just about to get flattened, but doesn't get peoples back up like a long blast.

You want to try being in Blackpool, I have had several strolling across the road whilst on their mobile. I even held thumb on horn right next to one and they never flinched Shocked Thank god it is the end of the season now, less tourists to cause havoc.

Moments like that you wish you had a carbed bike to backfire the fuckers.

Out of interest though, if someone caused you to bin it by stepping into the road, how would you claim from them? You'd basically have to sue them wouldn't you?

umm was wondering that myself.

A) its a pedestrian crossing
B) the pedestrian light is red "do not cross"
C) lemming steps out into your path and no time to avoid

so its not your fault but are there any weird laws surrounding pedestrian crossings ?

i think it would come down to witnesses. unless of course you have a bullet cam recording the offending lemming.

Is that why they have the Jay walking law then......

As to dropping it to avoid them..... DONT.....

Hit them, as bad as it sounds its the only way you might be able to claim..... So long as you get witnesses to them crossing when they should not be. Also chances are you will still be upright as well.

You can bet your bottom dollar if you fell off avoiding them they would disappear faster than a kitten down a bikers pants Wink

Ooops!
I think you will find that IF you are turning into a road from a main road, the pedestrian has right of way. IF you'd hit him, he could have sued you, well and truly!!!

Me thinks peeps ought to look at the highway code and check what rights the pedestrian has. And even if you have a green light at a crossing, it still states that you are to procede ONLY if the way is clear... Exclamation

And it time that these muppets had to face the same penalties as someone who jumps a red light in a car/bike does.......

The fact its going to hurt them a lot more should instill some form of self preservation...... But you only have to hear kids saying "ITS A RED MAN" while being dragged across crossings, to realise how little respect some people have for their own and others lives......

Including if my Front wheel is level with him has he starts running. I very much doubt that. Considering if I had hit him he would have run into the bike himself and I would have been about 2 ft from the kerb.

Okay, it's your call, but if you did hit someone in such a way, you can't say I didn't pre-warn you. Idea

I agree with clanger. The highway code says you should give way to pedestrians if you are turning into a side road that they are crossing.

I very rarely see people do it, and as a pedestrian I just give way to traffic as, I dont think many people have actually read the highway code.

Perhaps its just my feeble USA molded brain, but I don't see why a pedestrian would EVER have right of way over a moving vehicle. How hard is it to just wait for the crossing light to come on? Its like saying that airplanes should give way to birds.

Yes, but that's AFTER you have been stopped at the red light for them to cross. It doesn't mean the ped has right of way when they cross on their RED light.....
