Computer waiting times!

Has anyone ever thought just how much acumulated lifetime we could all save if computers didn't keep us waiting!

From pc's at work to supermarket tills, to bank card machines whilst making payments and also holes in the wall. If big and fast enough servers were used we wouldn't be stood/sat there like lemons waiting for the next screen to appear - it would happen in an instant and we'd be on our way minutes sooner. Over a lifetime that would run into hours and possibly days saved!!

But how much time is saved by them by doing otherwise time consuming tasks?

Imagine how inconvenient it would be not having ATM's. You could only withdraw money 9am till 5pm and there would be an enormous queue.

I happen to think machines are quite fast considering what they are doing.

In a Supermarket, imagine how long it would take to get your shopping through the till if the cashier had to manually calculate each item by looking it up on a list.

Thank god for self service tills is all I have to say, after the first few months of it being a novelty for 53 year old bored housewives trying to figure out a bar code from a chocolate bar, they all stay clear of the complex system now, leaving moi to zoom through the supermarket quicker than you can say "Sainsburys Slag".

It also meant you got to see what you had worked hard all week to achieve. People used to look forward to getting a wage packet on a friday. There was something special about getting and envelope full of cash and having to count it through a hole in the corner to make sure it was all there before you tore it open. Magic!.
Getting a wage slip at the end of the month with numbers on it just doesn't give you the same feeling.
We used to have a 2 week shutdown in summer and you would get 3 weeks wages on the friday before we finished. You felt like a millionaire with that much cash in your hand, especially if you'd been hammering the overtime the week before.

Gosh, I remember being paid like that. Factories and offices with trollies full of money in little envelopes. It was great, all that cash in a fat little packet.

I only ever got paid in cash for a couple of nights I worked in the RAF's officers mess as a waiter. Felt pretty cool getting cash but it went straight into the bank. I kinda like the digital way of getting paid, makes it easier I reckon.
