Nicked from another forum and not seen it here so

Quote:

Page 297, section 7. Specifically sections 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4.

"7.2 The UK casualty figures for motorcycle collisions are very poor, with riders being 42 times more likely to be killed than car users, compared to a European average of 18 times. Rider improvement schemes such as BikeSafe are shown to be successful and should be statutorily incorporated. The detection of motorcycling offences is problematic, encouraging non-compliance. This includes Vehicle Excise Duty evasion on a massive scale. For this reason, stricter penalties should be introduced for non-compliant registration plates and further work should be done on the development of such products as number plates containing chips that will allow automated vehicle identification, even at high speeds.

7.3 There is a need for radical thinking in respect of motorcycles, including consideration of engine capability and the creation of protection zones where all motorcycles other than those specifically permitted, would be prohibited.

7.4 Production machines are readily available for use on our roads with top speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour. Motorcycles are seen in the UK to be, in the majority of instances, vehicles of choice rather than necessity and one might consider if our congested roads are any longer fit for purpose for these motorised toys."

What is this? Sounds like that grumpy old sod who tried putting that petition through. Stating 'facts' he'd pulled out of his arse.

That was done by that 'transport expert' bloke who doesn't even own a car. Pay it no mind specifically.

However, yes join BMF or preferably MAG (or both) and do it now. I can guarantee that if you like biking its one of the best £20 you'll ever spend.

https://www.mag-uk.org/

We should be allowed to ride motorcycles on the road if we want to. No civil liberties element even entered the document above, and why the hell not I say? Why should the government tell us we can't ride bikes just because we might hurt ourselves? Who are they to tell us we shouldn't be taking that kind of risk??

Even if you don't like bikes, then MAG is a beneficial organisation as it campaigns for motorcyclists rights, which by extension includes an element of civil liberty which is sorely lacking in our current society.

Fuck Gordon Brown, Fuck Zanulabour, I don't want ID cards, I want to be able to ride motorcycles if I choose, I don't want my emails and phone calls monitored. I'm not a terrorist but if "Yuou've got nothing to hide then you've got nothing to worry about" is the only FOR argument for most of this stuff, then I want no part of it.

I want to be able to live my life without interference from some fat old scottish bastard in Whitehall. Especially if the legislation/measures are brought in 'for my own safety'.

Join MAG now, its the least you can do. Then if you still feel strongly, donate to these people:

If you scroll up a bit you'll read that bunch of crap was from Memorandum from Association of Chief Police Officers.

Scroll down a bit, to the bit about seat belts, they want to make it an endorseable offence, tho forsee a problem endorsing the young unlicensed.

I imagine that cvnt in North Wales put his oar in, tho it does show what a complete waste of space the police are, having nothing better to do with their time.

There's probably some Baaa-ritish sheep nodding along to the recommendations that all bikes should be banned off the road because they're dangerous "toys". Middle Finger to that.

It could happen. Don't forget what has happened to trail riding in the Uk because of powerful lobbying in Parliament by The Rambler's Association. People said there was no way that Parliament would legislate to restrict rider's trail riding rights. They were wrong.

ACPO is listened to by MP's and is a much more powerful lobbying force than The Ramblers.

Join MAG now unless you want to see motorcycling become an increasingly marginalised/discredited thing by groups such as CTC, ACPO.

Is there a production bike that has standard could do 200mph on the clocks? Let alone a true 200mph. I believe that tarty MV is the fastest at 193mph. Not sure about the Desmo, But I'm fairly sure for the cost of what I would pay for a desmo I could get a car that goes 200mph.

They don't listen to that, they assume that speedometers are correct.

I watched a programme a couple of years back and they had a man on it called 'kenny' (not his real name Rolling Eyes) who 'claimed' to have done 200mph 'On 't bypass'... the bike in the background behind his obscured face was a GSXR600 SRAD...

So its boasting wankers like this who get us in trouble.

Aye, I remember watching that. Laughing

I wouldn't join the BMF IMO they are a bunch of useless idiots. It's all about MAG baby.

The BMF were the ones that thought that bikes with speed control would be safe IIRC.

But you could also argue that if the report is saying "Our congested roads are no longer fit for purpose for these motorised toys"

Means that they need to start building roads that *are* fit for purpose!!

(I know it isn't likely to be interpreted in this way, but that is one way of interpreting it!).

Can the ZZR1400 not do 200+ (if de-limited)?

Listen, we aren't talking about delimited bikes or whatever... we're talking about road bikes you can buy.

Tuning is a seperate issue, and its very very hard to derestrict Japanese hyperbikes.

If derestricted (couple of speedo healers is the normal solution, one to lower the speed reading for the ecu, another to put the speedo reading back to something truthful) and conditions are good you might just about manage it with a bit of dedication.

Reality is that I doubt even close to 1% of the ZZR14s sold have managed a true 200mph.

All the best

From my post on the other thread mentioning this...

On the BMF / MAG debate for a long time now I've thought BMF a waste of time as IMO...
Arrow they don't want to rock the boat
Arrow they see being seen on various committees, quangos, etc. as more important than achieving anything
Arrow they always state that whatever they say/do change is inevitable so accept it

Personally I'd prefer an organisation purporting to represent me to have more balls.

Having said that I'd recommend joining and/or giving support to one or more organizations as remember all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men and women do nothing.
