Things under the side stand?

I've been looking through the pictures section and noticed most if not everyone has a little piece of something like wood or metal under the side stand. What is it for?

Generally only used if you're on a soft surface, to stop your stand sinking in.

i put a big 2 inch concrete block under my stand because it leans over miles due to the jack up kit I fitted

I got mine free from the NEC last year (advertising ebike). It has come in useful on many occasions and it saves looking for a bit of wood or drink can

I have got quite a few free but strangley enough, never use them.

I only need them on my Dad's drive and even then I use a flat rock (broken bit of wall).

I filed my sidestand so it would lean a little more. Gives me a bit more choice when parking. Theres a garage on the A1 with a hideous slope at the pumps. I use a piece of wood in the garage to put the bike more upright and give me morespace.
Beware new tarmac in summer! My bike stand sunk 2ins the other year! Took some effort to get it out again.

I used to put my mille on wood because the OE sidestand is notoriously dodgey. If a mouse farted near the bike it was liable to fall over.
