I seriously think it's had it mind.

Bought a cheap Nokia 2610 PAYG from Tesco. T-mobile seemed to have a good text tariff which is all I use it for so I got one of them.

Quickly after getting it back, I found that there was naff all reception in my house. Despite this I persisted for a couple of weeks.

Well, it's still pish and I still have my old O2 SIM but the bastard handset is locked to t-mobile.

So, I set about trying to unlock it. Those unlock websites couldn't come up with the goods.

Next option, try t-mobile customer services. After about 15 minutes of creative misunderstanding I finally got through to someone who didn't sound like he knew what he was doing but was starting on the money with an unlock code, bloody battery died.

Called back and got a whole lot more people blowing smoke out of their arse. I'd eventually been on the phone for around an hour and was talking to some techy who was trying to tell me they couldn't possibly unlock the handset, I had to wait 90 days, then they'd contact nokia which would take another 28 days and there was a £15 charge.

I told him that I thought he was lying to try to keep me on t-mobile because the other guy had got as far as the #pw+7 of the unlock code when the phone died. There was a significant pause then he repeated his 90 days bullshit.

Now I am beginning to tire of this. The phone was only £20, I've already spent who knows what on the call from a landline (due to the mobile phone having no reception).

I then told him the following:
"Think very carefully about how you answer my next question. I think you are lying to me and have the unlock code on the screen in front of you. There is nothing you can say or do that will make me stay with T-mobile short of building a new mast near my house by tomorrow. While it is locked to T-mobile, this handset is totally useless to me.

I am NOT prepared to either wait four months or pay you any money to have it unlocked. If it is not unlocked by the time I finish this phone call, I am going to pick up the hammer on the table next to me and smash it to bits, that is how much use it is.

So. Are you prepared to give me the unlock code, or do I start smashing?"

"I can't do that sir."

Bang. Bangbangbangbang. bang

"Thank you for your time. Goodbye."

So, I think I may have broken it. What do you lot think?

I'd spend the same again in petrol getting there.

Tesco is closer. Try again, different network.

A bit late now, but I wonder what O2 would have done if you'd rang them and said "I've got a Nokia locked to T-Mobile but the reception is crap - unlock it for me and I'll put my O2 SIM in it."

Thinking

This is true, but it wouldn't have done my blood pressure as much good. Speaking to call centres gives me headaches, it was totally worth the price of the phone.

You will also notice I was careful not to hammer the battery.

Brilliant. Thumbs Up Very Happy Thumbs Up
I bought a t mobile phone on contract years ago and found I had no reception whatsoever in my house. When I rang to tell them it was no use and that I wanted to send it back they suggested that I went outside to take calls as the reception would be better. Presumably I would just prearrange calls so that I could be stood in the street waiting for it to ring. I had a right arguement trying to get the thing sent back. T mobile said it was between me and the retailer, and the retailer said it was between me and t mobile.
Never again.

Laughing Legend. Karma given.

My mate has been banned from Carphone Warehouse Laughing They started to cotton on when he'd bought 20 iPhones within a month (his dad is obscenely rich), unlocked them and sold them onto his friends and anyone who wanted to use a different service provider with them Laughing

Squeeze the main bit in a vice until its guts come, to see what makes it go.
