Had to help a scooterist this morning who had been pushed into the kerb by the wind. His scoot was a mess but he was only shaken up.

Just bought it home how vunerable we all are out there.

Ordered a car on our scheme today, 2 reasons:

1. Parents don't want me on a bike through the winter
2. Owning an RS is enough of a task without the worry of things going wrong in this weather Thumbs Down

110kg 125s are quite susceptible to cross winds.

Had my first proper commute today on the bike, intense to say the least!

Wind - Tick
Cross gales - Tick
Horizontal rain - Tick
Waterproof trousers arriving a few hours after i left for work - Tick

Ride home was great though, open roads and warm house and food to look forward to Laughing

I did find myself riding quite far over to the left of the lane as the wind was from the left, scared i was going to end up on someones bonnet coming the other way!

My little YBR didn't like it! 60 was all it could manage at a push, then got to within 50 yards of work and some idiot in a smart car reverses into me whilst stopped... bike somehow feels different, it falls into corners more, but then that's probably me being extra careful in the rain and wind.

Had hell of a time riding home last night, was in the KD position for 11 miles just to keep the bike nearly on my side of the road, but still managed about 1/2 mile of nearly braking my arms trying to pull it back on to my side of the road. Can't wait until the 125 gets sorted, not bothered if that goes down the road, it's the 650 i'm worried about.

yea, its suprisingly sheltered behind bushes, but when you go past a road / opening the wind realy hits you!

I find keeping my legs locked to the tank and totally relaxing my upper body works wonders in cross winds. If you're holding on for dear life and stiff as a board, when the wind takes your body it'll take the bike with it.

I nearly got blown over several times today. Very scarey indeed. I had to stop for a couple of minutes to calm my nerves. I very nearly gave up and left my scooter. What do you do when you only weigh 46kg and the scooter 104 kg? I braked everytime I felt I was going to topple over. The car behind me was really pxxed off. In the end I just rode at 25mph all the way home.

My ride to and from college seems to be getting more and more dodgy with this crappy weather.

Dark and country lanes with a rubbish headlight = not good. Especially when cars come the other way and blind me so badly that when I can see again I realise im on a corner!

Can't work out if I'm just being scared or not but on my ped it feels pretty sketchy going round corners in the wet and wind even at 30? I don't know if this is the same on all bikes or if it's just me or what?

There's quite often a line of crappy leaf litter and gravel right through the middle of the road with a sticking out verge-wall thing, also rubbish road surface, does this justify going 30 or less round corners (they aren't that sharp)? Or should I be alright cornering on the mess in the middle of the road?

Sorry for this long post, and sorry if you don't understand, but I can't work out whether I should be slowing down this much in corners or not, seems to annoy the cagers anyway Neutral

strong side winds and corners don't mix very well, and will cause you to over or under steer depending on which way the wind is coming and which way the corner goes.

Gravel best to avoid if you can, if you can't try and go over it straight, leaves and other crap, if it's just a bit have faith you might get a tiny slide or wobble but it *should* be alright don't tense up on the bars it only exagerates any troubles, ever gone over a cats eye at a shallow angle at speed whilst relaxed ? feel the bars kick one way then back again on there own ? well they will do that to if its only a small amount of crap in the corner. But you gotta be relaxed and have some faith in you bike... hard i know but...

you know have some corners just flow you've been round it a million times and know you can ge round it fast? so why do we slow down for less severe corners that we don't know and think that we had trouble getting round it at a lower speed than other corners we do know, because we're tensing up on the bars effectivally fighting the bikes will to go round the corner.

Cheers, I think I do just need a bit more faith, only it tends to be a nice thick line of mess in the middle of the road, tomorrow I'll try going round a corner in the middle of the road and see if my bike can manage it, if not at least im only going 40ish and I shouldn't get hurt too bad.

It seems so weird that all these conditions seem scary for me now, but at some point I'm hoping to be going round these corners on a nice big bike which can go much faster!

From what I've explained (not great I know), what speed would you guys feel comfortable going round these sort of corners?
