Got it last night - the old man got given it. It's a IZH Jupiter 5.

Probably just going to sell it on, but wondered if anyone knew anything about them? Stinkwheel? Kickstart?

It's a 350 2T Twin. Front brake doesn't. 4 Speed. Could be amusing.

^ Exactly the same as, It's only got 3000km on the clock!

That looks a joy to service. I wish my spark plugs were as easy to get to as that!

It's £100 to insure it. I'm almost tempted to stick massive twin spotlights on it and paint the tank and sidepanels Khaki green Cool

Please don't make a total mess of what sounds like a pretty tidy original 2 stroke. Laughing

It's a bike of my childhood, never ridden one but was on the back couple of times, my cousin had one.

It looks like its in a real good condition, i also think its Russian bike as it has writing in Russian on it

Screw that, do what the hell you want with it.

They are a pile of poo but so utterly basic that they are great fun to mess about with. As has been said, they are a joy to work on.

You are aware that among other things the IZH factory makes the Kalashnikov rifles. The bikes were sometimes badged up as a kalasnikov 350.

Rather than kaki green, I'd paint it a more yellow-browny/green colour. the Russian military DO use them and paint most of their stuff that colour. They also made them as police bikes and as tricycle fire-engines.

You'll be able to find out more about IZH on the following website:
https://www.autosoviet.altervista.org/main-english.htm

If you have a spare £180, the very best purchase you could make for one is an MZ-b "powerdyno" kit. It replaces the standard charging and ignition system with a modern and almost indestructable mag/dyno. High power output, big fat sparks. www.mz-b.de

Aye, I knew it was russian. My dad has ridden a Ural 650 for a few years now.

I'll try and get the thing going before I make any judgement on it.

Ta for the website, stink. Thumbs Up

That thing looks fun, last thing I'd be doing is selling it. Shocked

I bought one of those for my old MZ. Expensive, but nicely made.

You mean you managed to get it to go into all of them at the first time of asking? Shocked

You must have got one of the extra special ones.

EDIT: Does it have a neutral gear between third and fourth for coasting down hills like my Jawa does? (if you are over-revving in fourth, you just knock it down half and you are in neutral).

If it does and you hit it by accident on the way up, just drop back into third and try again. Attempting to hook fourth from here can damage the dogs on fourth gear.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
