hi all,

i stripped my bike a few weeks back including pulling the engine out etc and re-building it....

and when i bought it (3 weeks ago) the electronic motor for the powervalve used to move a quater of a turnclockwise then back to center...

but now ive put a new battery in to the bike, it is no longer moving when i turn the ignition on like it used to.

the battery before was completly dead? did it move to tell me the battery was on its last legs? and dosent do it now as its a BRAND NEW battery??

or has it packed up? Neutral

ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT...thanks Thumbs Up

It should move when you turn the ignition on. Think it resets back to its normal position.

Have you charged your new battery? Because they don't come charged.

Yeah, whatever the lowest OHM setting is.

It should read a very low resistance. If it says just '1' or off the scale then it's probably blown. You should be able to see the gap in the metal anyway.

right,

i checked all the fuses and they are all fine.

however the unit is getting power to it as i can feel it as i turn the ignition to the "on" possition, also my other spare one also does that.

i was talking to my dad and he recons that because ther eis no oil in the sump and the oil light is on that it needs oil for the servo to work?sort of like a safty feture?

is this why?or is there a deeper problem?

thanks!

I'd be very surprised if it's oil related.

If you've had the engine out and apart, I'd say there's a dodgy connection as you've put it back together.

thanks![/quote] there is'nt a sump.

the oil light on a mito should only be on in neutral should go out when you put it in gear its only there for if you run low on 2 stroke oil.

Get a Haynes manual, there's most likely a troubleshooting thing and it'll give you steps on what to do.

Hi

The power valve should open and close when you switch the ignition on. It is operated by a servo and controlled by a control unit. The control units do go pop quite often. You might find that it opens the valve but doesn't close it (not that you will notice, as it will open it and then never close it to open it again). You might be able to close the valve manually and notice it open the next time you switch on the ignition.

Think the later ones do have a fuse on the wire to the control unit, or between the control unit and the servo. Think the problem seems to be that when the valve gets stuck or is badly adjusted is that the servo just draws more current and pops the circuits in the control unit (or the fuse if you are lucky enough to have one).

Last I heard was the 3X (Cagiva importers at the time) would only warrenty a new control unit if it was sold with a new servo unit.

To be honest the first thing I would do is to disconnect the cables to the power valve and see if the servo still operates. Possible you have connected the cables the wrong way round and so jammed it. Hopefully without popping the control unit.

All the best

Keith

hi,

the unit did move clock wise at 1 point and dident move back? but only did it once?

also there is also a fuse amouncst the wiring in the wiring box(above the engine in a plastic box bolted to the frame) and that fuse was okay?

what do i do if it is only moving one way???

as i have a spare one and a spare controll unit and they both did the same thing.

you can feel it julting as you turn it on but it does nothing else??

help!

thanks

Hi

Suspect the control unit has gone pop (and likely the spare is with the bike as it is a previous one that has gone pop). From memory they are about £125 new (and the same again for the servo...). So don't buy one unless you are certain you need one.

Think the fuses on the newer ones are just an inline fuse in the wire to the servo.

All the best

Keith

hello keith,

right i tell you what ive done so far.

i took the spare servo unit apart and did a direct link to the montor and it spun in both directions perfectly so thats working okay.

i also noticed it has an inline fuse (10 amp)as you say above attached to the controll unit?so why has my control unit gone pop WITH a fuse Confused

the one currently on the bike only moves 1 way in sudden jolts of about 2mm if you turn the bike on and off continuosly and sometimes dosent work at all??

so is this defanatly the control unit??

as i dont want to be wasting that amount of money when its not.

cheers mate!

any help is verrry much apriciated.

The first unit is a CDI not a PV control unit, Keith is referring to the second one which is a PV Control unit.

They can burn out if the PV isn't adjusted correctly. Have you the cleaned the PV blade and adjusted the it as per the workshop manual?

It's supposed to be a 5 amp fuse IIRC.

Always adjust the PV blade and cables according to the manual after cleaning it.

its a 10 amp fuse going to the servo unit, i made a mistake before saying it goes to the control unit.

so the bloke before me has put the wrong fuse in on it then i take it??
