Hi everyone,

I just bought a Daelim VS125 evolution. I believe it's a CG based engine???

Anyways.....running it home (200 miles) it got through about 18 quids worth of fuel Shocked Shocked !!!

This I know is not good. Any help on what to try would be most appreciated.

It's performance coulda been better but then running that rich it's not surprising! Lot of vibration too, couldn't feel my bum by the end! Laughing

Many thanks

Shelley

How many miles does it have on it or is it a brand new bike?

Are you sure you had the choke in the off position? What you have decribed is what I would expect from a CG125 driven with the choke on all the time.

No need to be embarassed if it was, the choke operation on a CG carb is far from clearly marked.

EDIT: I make that 50mpg fuel consumption (assuming just under £1 per litre). If you were battling into a headwind all the way, that is possible.

Choke is operated on the handlebars. Was definitely in the off position.

It is a 2003 and has 35000km on the clock

It's idling ok but is a bit skippy in higher revs.

PS There was very little wind, hills etc. Dual carriageway mostly doing about 50-55mph.

Check the sparkplug, if it is running rich, the end of the electrode will be black or very dark brown.

If that is the case, might be worth checking the air filter isn't clogged and making sure a previous owner hasn't messed about with the throttle needle position in an attempt to "tune" it.

If the following link is correct the engine is not identical to a Honda CG125.

https://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/daelim_vs_125_evolution_2001.php

The bore and stroke are the same so its related to the honda cg125.

But it has 4 valves instead of 2.
Its power output is higher.
I expect its overhead cam not overhead valve.
It weights more etc..

I expect most of the above would make the fuel economy worse than a Honda CG125.
But have to agree 50mpg means something is wrong.

Is there any chance you made a mistake about the fuel consumption?

Is it liquid or air cooled? If it's liquid cooled, check the thermostat isn't stuck shut (temperature gauge, if it has one, will stay on cold). If it's air cooled, then check the air filter and replace the spark plug.

Cheers

hi,
is this a 156FMI (mk 1 or 2) engine? which always runs a bit rich, dunno why.
& what carbs on it?
if its one of those with the plunger on the outside(enrichener) these always run rich, more so at wot, cos its operated by throttle cable & is set to give an extra spray of fuel at wot.
but there always set up too tight.
i found this out when i removed the carb, removed the carb bowl base & pressed down on the little plunger - result= petrol squrited right into my fucking eye, stung like hell! lol.
have a look at the carb & see if you can see a little hammer type thing move down on a little plunger (usually got a small rubber boot on it) when the throttle is opened up wide, towards the airbox..
just loosen the 2 small nuts-(slackens cable off a touch - the plunger only needs to move at full throttle, not before), thus reducing effect of "enrichener", this should do the trick.
theres also a mixture screw on the bottom of the carb, facing the ground!
airboxes on most chinese bikes are crap, i just replace them with sb conical mesh filter (tenner) & if flush change the carb for a mikuni 29mm. (£35-£40)
& make sure its not a torch, lg or any other chinese spark plug, if it is change it asap!
