I want a DID X-Ring, I know the rough price and where I can find them to order.
I have found them listed for the RVF as "525 pitch 108 link" as part of a chain+ sprocket kit and I allso found a "102 link" chain on another site.

Now it does'nt take a genious to figure out that "108/102 link" refers to the ammount of links respectively.
As for the Pitch I'm guessing this is relevant to some sort of width in mm, I'll put my money on the width of the rollers/ inner diameter of the chain. If anybody can clarify this for me It would help Smile .

So far so good...
The rear sprocket complicates matters, I think the standard is 40T, I currently have a renthal rear sprocket and I am looking to replace the set with a OEM Front sprocket which I allready have waiting, and a hard adonized renthal rear.

The problem is I want to free up a bit of performance through by changing the rear sprocket size.
My understanding is that to gain acceleration and possibly actually make the gearing a bit more usable without sacrificing top end I'd need to go up in teeth so I think I'd be looking at a 42-43T.

I've got no Idea what I'm doing when ordering a sprocket becuase they seem to be listed by bike model and usually only for a small selection of popular large cc superbikes etc.

And finally, becuase I'm wanting to add teeth to the rear I'm guessing the DID chain suggested for a standard RVF setup won't be long enough, so how would I go about working out how many links I need?

Thankyouplease

the normal thing is to drop the front sprocket by 1 tooth, then you can use a standard chain and rear sprocket.
if your speedo is gearbox driven this will be about 10mph out.

Hi

With a chain, 525 refers to the dimensions. The first digit is the pitch in eighths of an inch (ie, distance from the centre of one pin to the centre of the next). Think the next digit is normally the width of the chain, but it is a bit fuzzy (ie, not 100% certain that a 520 and a 525 are the same width, as for example the difference between a 530 and a 532 is the diameter of the roller).

Don't think the chain length would be any different whether you use a 520, 525, 530 or 532.

If you go up a couple of teeth on the back then you will need a chain that many teeth longer. In theory the length changes a slightly different amount (due to the change in the angle of the chain), but in practice for a couple of teeth difference it shouldn't make a difference.

All the best

Keith

Ok that advice is great Keith and allmost 100%, my tutor at college cleared it up for me today.

As you quite rightly stated the 1st digit, (>'5'<25) means that the distance from one pin to another is 5/8 of an inch.

The 2nd and 3rd digits (5>'25'<) refer to the width of the chain in 80ths of an inch, so a 525 chain is 25/80 of an inch in width.

Thats what I remember him saying anyway Razz

One thing that I did'nt think about that rotax has made me think about with his post is, If I do mess around with the final drive ratio then is there any way I can compensate to fix the speedo?
I don't understand the function of a speedo healer so if someone would be kid enough to fill me in Embarassed Thumbs Up

Hi

If you speedo runs off the front wheel then changing the gearing won't make any difference.

Most speedos that run off the front sprocket use a signal basically saying then the sprocket turns. The speedo reads X pulses and is set up to understand that to be Y mph. Change the gearing and X pulses now means (say) Y * 1.05 mph. A speedo healer just allows you to alter the number of pulses from the front sprocket to compensate.

All the best

If by front wheel you mean the 17" rim and BT090 tyre then no my speedo does'nt run off that.

If by front wheel you front sprocket wheel then yes my speedo runs off this, so a speedo healer will do the trick then?

Hi

By front wheel I meant the one hanging from your forks.

As you say the speedo drive is from the front sprocket then a speedo healer would do the job.

All the best
