Just been in a mini-motorway pileup...

...luckily, I was driving a car at the time, otherwise I'd probably be dead.

Coming back from Sunderland, going down the M6, I was just about to pull off towards the M65 where it splits into 4 lanes (2 for m65, 2 for m6).

I got into Lane 2 and stopped as a van and a lorry in front braked suddenly. Unfortunately, the woman in the Ford Fiesta behind didn't, and hit me at about 50-60mph (so the police say).

My car was still driveable enough to pull to the side of the road, hers definitely wasn't and had to be towed to the hard shoulder by the highways agency 4x4.

I've attached a picture of the damage to the car, it's worse than it looks here, I think the frame is bent as the back seat has been pushed forward and is touching the front seats (thank fuck there were no passengers in the back, eh!)

I think my foot slipped off the brake when I was shunted forwards, and I hit a Skoda which was stopped in front. Only relatively minor damage to her car.

I'm just counting myself very lucky, and I'm glad I was wearing my seatbelt. As it is I banged my head on the roof of the car, and I also have aches and pains in my neck and back which appeared after I was dropped off by the police. I went up to A&E but they said their waiting list was 3 hours so I'm going to book an appointment wiht my GP tommorow.

The A&E people said that my neck will be a lot worse tommorow, I hope not to be honest as the new GF is coming up tommorow night

Also made me think... what if I'd been riding the bike?

Well, the other woman's insurance company have just been on and offered me £650 compensation... this is before I've even been to see a doctor.

Our insurance company has advised me to tell them to stick it up their arse.

Can't get a GP appointment today so I'm going tommorow instead.

Looks like this might turn out to be a blessing in disguise...

Similar thing happened to me going through the roadworks on the M1, except i was rearended by an artic, shit the life out of me, but didn't hit a car i front of me.
Whiplash the same as you, ended up with about £1700 compo as the figures have come down a lot from what they used to be
But if you have to take time off work etc etc £££££££££££££££££££
Good luck but don't expect anything for at least 6 to 9 months

Caused my bad back to flare up and a sore neck. I got £1600.

I'd agree with G on this, I read somewhere sitting at the back of a queue on a motorbike is dangerous and I'd imagine it is the same for when everything brakes suddenly.

Also if you where on the bike chances are you'd be 10 miles in front of all of this.
