£25 a fucking metre? I only want the bastard to stick some tiles to the floor. Is £25 going rate or at the top end?

I am not doing it myself.

Depends on the tiles used, the ones in our bathroom cost more than that per sq mtr for the tiles alone as the O/H wanted something in proper stone.

If you already have them it's not that hard to do yourself. Wink

Its doesn't sound too bad, I take it that price is with you supplying the tiles and him supplying the adhesive and grout.
If its a small job he may charge a little more per m2 to cover his costs, plus he'll have to come back to grout.

But I'm no expert on tiling prices you could always make a few calls and see what other tilers are charging.
Be careful to get somebody decent though, I've seen some real tiling disasters, even I knew you were supposed to start in the middle and work out Laughing

tiling is really very simple if there's no levels and not too many cuts required!

I've already got the tiles, the price is for laying and grout etc.

I am probably capable of doing it myself, but it's a generous christmas present from a relative. So NO I shan't be on my knees for several hours after work every night swearing and smashing tiles.

Going to ring round a few more. Hopefully be able to play them off a bit for cash.

Tiling is easy. I did a superb job the first time I ever tried. Same with wallpapering and cutting in. The only thing I struggle with is painting with gloss on a door and not getting runs... Rolling Eyes

i charge 35 quid a sq metere, not worth doing it for anything less, ifya dont wanna pay the price do it ya self, none of the other tilers i know would work for 25 quid sq metre, dont forget your paying for quality and if its done properly will last a very long time.

what is it? a bathroom floor? on ply?

last one i tiled i charged him £200 for an 13 square metre kitchen, i also replaced his skirting boards. was for a mate though and he supplied everything. took me 12 hours cos the floor was a bit uneven.

if its a wooden floor you will need a more expensive adhesive and will have to ply it first. i use 9mm ply screwed down with a shit load of 1" screws.

I am a Tiler.
Depends on alot of things really.

If its a decent sized area and not much cutting involved I charge anything from £25 per sqm up to £45 per sqm depending on what sort of tiles there are and how good or bad the floor is to be laid on and what you are laying the tiles on to i.e. sand & cement screed or plywood or tile over tile.

Those meterage prices would be including adhesive, grout & labour.

Certain types of tile require different adhesives(natural stones, terracota, marble, granite, porcelain & slate) and some tiles also have to be treated & sealed too, which can be more expensive, some also require to be cut by diamond wet-wheel which also affects cost because it adds time.

If it was a 4m bathroom I would be charging around £150-200.

If it was a 10m kitchen floor I would be charging around £250-300.

If it was a natural stone 10m kitchen floor I would be charging £400-500.

All prices would include adhesive & grout.

Rapid set adhesives range from £15-£45 a 20-25kg bag.
Grout is anything from £5-£20 a 5k-20k bag.

Is quite hard to give an accurate estimates unless tilers have seen it but they would be ballpark figures.

I'm a tiler myself, but living in NI and getting paid considerably less, the standard rate for domestic basic ceramics is £12-15 m2. You'd be lucky to get £10m on a building site.

If adhesive and grout are included in the £25 it doesn't sound too bad though. I'd generally give a price for labour and then a price for materials on top of that.

I'm doing a slate floor next week for £20 a metre plus materials. Confused
