Don't know about the UK, but here in Barcelona the fuel prices are dropping like flies!
Today I payed 95 cents per litre of 95 unleaded!
5 euros was 5.26 litres!
Only 2 months ago it was 1.19 per litre. More than 20% drop Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Don't worry, there are still massive profits being made. Oil is now nearly two-thirds cheaper than it was in July, of course the savings are yet to be fully passed onto the consumer.

And american petrol station will show you the cost per gallon, rather than per litre. Hence why you hear yanks saying 'its $4 a gallon' or whatnot.

Becuase talking in Litres would be pretty useless over there. Seeing as you only get about 8/mpg out of your fat-bastard-bus, you might as well use Gallons as the common unit of reference.

Also remember that the U.S. gallon is smaller than the Imperial gallon. The U.S. gallon is about 7/8ths the size of an Imperial one.

Fuel prices won't be "sweeeeet" until they get to be 50p a litre or less.

i think the first GALLON of 2star petrol i bought cost 30p (i was about 12-13 and sticking it in a Tiger Cub), then once i was old enough to be legally on the road it was something like 65-70p per gallon ...

everybody was moaning like buggery when it cleared a quid a gallon, then the government decided we had to metricate our liquid measurements, from then on it was obvious we were going to get screwed just the same as when we first decimalised our currency and started weighing everything in kilos and grammes...

i doubt anyone under the age of 35 remembers how things jumped in cost when those happened, it was only a small jump immediately but it was because the majority of the UK population had to spend time working out the conversion and an awful lot didn't manage to correctly (an awful lot still don't), as a population we were effectively slipped Rohypnol

Quite, fuel is still rediculously overpriced. Just slightly less so than it was a few months ago.

Incidently oil is now just under $50 a barrel.

I give it less that a month until OPEC (the C stands for c***s) announce they are going to cut production and force the price back up again.

Out of interest, if you could buy your petroleum in future bonds, would you buy a shit load now for use throughout next year?

Whats OPEC got to do with it? , the bit they take is tiny compared to what the government takes.....

Oh and if the £ hadn't been trashed by the government (lowering interest rates) petrol might well be 80p a litre or less...

This however means less ££££ for the government which means government finances are going to tank even worse than they are doing so now. Which means more taxes elsewhere....

And a final triple whammy , interest rates are going to go up up and away, namely because UK government bail out plans require the sale of bonds, and to make them attractive you have to boost the interest rate which should make the £ appreciate. But kill plenty of mortgage holders....

The government is fast running out of ammo to deal with recession , we have 3% more to cut and then we have the zimbabwe option.

Petrol prices are dropping yet the gap between petrol and diesel appears to be growing.

It's now around 15p per litre.

Discussing this there's a number of reasons...
Arrow Diesels are seen as company cars so companies can foot the bills
Arrow Was told this country has no diesel refining capability so it's all imported whereas petrol is delivered straight from the refinery
Arrow The oil companies can see a nice little markup

Anyone any other ideas, maybe even a correct one?

I've also noticed a trend for 'clean' petrol and 'clean' diesel priced, obviously Rolling Eyes, more expensive. I suspect it won't be long before the companies choose to phase out 'dirty' fuel so you can only buy the more expensire (and for some reason I suspect more profitable) 'clean' stuff. Mad

Petrol prices in the UAE are absolutely shockingly high. They pay 14p!!! A litre!!!

They don't have a petrol refinery in the UAE so they ship their crude oil to Saudi for refining. Apparently in Saudi they only pay 7p a litre! Scandalous!! Smile

Sounds lovely, but it isn't quite that simple.

What's their petrol expenditure as a percent of earnings compared to ours?

Government fuel duty is more than that, let alone the VAT. A litre of 90p petrol is actually 26.25p petrol and the rest tax.

All the best

Thought there was something in the news at the end of September about OPEC doing that already?

What really gets me is how Gordon Brown stands there and tells the nation that petrol should be no more than 95p per litre and that garages should be reducing their prices asap. Here's something that's so much easier and something that you can do yourself Gordon...how about knocking 20p tax off the price of a litre to bring it down to roughly 70p per litre? Oh wait...you won't do that will you because you and your government are a bunch of greedy fuckwits intent on ruining this Country by way of your "tax and spend" policys.

Socialist my arse.

Reduce tax there and the missing income from that taxation has to come from somewhere else, how would you feel about an income tax rise? or paying for health care? the list is endless. I'm with you, but thinking logically it's swings and roundabouts.

That was the same line that Tony Blair repeatedly used as a cop out answer to many a question.

If it drops below 90p a litre, good times, if it gets back down to where I started at 80 real good times. I am a bit worried that this is just a temporary drop to make it seem like prices are going down before they get hiked again.
