London to Nottingham on a CG125: No motorways

1) How long will it take at night? According to the AA it's about 131 miles

2) What things shoudl I take with me? It's my first long distance excursion so I just want to compile a sort of emergency travel pack.

Any other advice wouldn't go amiss either.

Probably take a bit less than 3 hours I guess.

The only things you need for a long journey really are the essentials i.e. a satsuma, 3 feet of stout rope, a leather penis holster and plenty of lubricant Laughing

Alternatively...just think about the worst case scenario which is you breaking down in the middle of nowhere. In which case warm, waterproof clothes (which you'll already have on) and fags if you smoke Laughing

The main thing is your phone and an RAC/AA card and if you don't have that maybe taxi numbers for the largest places you'll be near if you get really stuck? If you give your bike a quick checkover there's no reason you'll have any problems, it ain't that far!

about 90 miles from herts to southampton on my cbr125 took 3ish hours, though on a journey that long getting lost is easy especially at night (i dont think i ever got that trip right ever haha) so get a map to take. worth checking the actual map of the route as the aa one i got was a ridic way to go. wear good trousers, i wore a pair of jeans over my draggin ones to prevent frostbitten balls.

, check oil/lube chain/brake fluid/tyres etc before setting out, and keep an eye on fuel. petrol station toilets and mars bars are your friend.
also be prepared to walk like john wayne for a while after getting there...

My friend does the exact same journey to uni and back once every month or so, it doesnt normaly take him more than 2h30, just be prepared from a numb bum and sore neck Laughing

it takes about 4 and a bit hours London to notts non motorway, I did same trip about 15 times on my 125.

A1081 out of London then follow signs for st albans, Luton then a6 Bedford Kettering a14 corby a6 Leicester loughborough kegworth a453 nottingham

Passed my test now and have to do notts/London today. I'm tempted to go the fun way rather than motorway

It took me about 3 hours to get from london to loughborough on my XR125 non motorways... I basically went to luton and used the A6 for most of the way, through leicester, into Loughborough. From there on, Notts is about 40 mins on the A60 at your sort of speeds (20 mins on the M1 otherwise).

When i went, my number plate came off because one of the bolts had vibrated loose! So, take gaffa tape, a leatherman or multitool (if you don't have a standard tool pouch)... LOADS of mars bars or bananas for instant energy - and because it's pretty cold and pretty dry, it's best to take a litre or 2 of water and hydrate yourself.

I said 3 hours because you'll probably have to negociate traffic in towns. London to Loughborough (uni) is about 1.30 including roadworks, but having said that, i start my timing from Edgware.
