Thanks to fellow bikers...

I'd like to say thanks to all of those fellow bikers out there that may be reading this who stopped to offer assistance to myself and my wife when we broke down yesterday, 5pm ish (26/4/04) at the Weaford Island A38 south towards Birmingham.

It's nice to know there are decent bikers out there who are willing to stop and offer help to a total stranger whom they have never met before.

Unfortunately there was nothing anyone could do (broken gear linkage) and I had to wait for a recovery truck to take us home. The offer of help and support though made up for our loss of transport.

I've just returned to biking after 15 years and it's great to know that there are still decent bikers out there, I've never had this reaction when I've broken down in a car, I think I'll stick to bikes.

Whoever you all were, if it was you, you're welcome in my home anytime...

Yeah, I had a few breakdowns and a group of bikers picked me up and took me to the pub like then we had a look at the bike later heh.

I may know little about bikes but i can sure arrange assistance. I have a neighbour who races a tunes 125bhp Sidecar. If anything sounds sweet, its that. He builds and rebuilds it in his garage and revs the tits off it. Team Holden Racing. Cracking bloke. Bout time he won the TT already.

So if your up north and break down, i can get a van or two out.

Yeah i stop everytime i see a biker that might have broken down.

Gave a guy on a zx6 a lift on my VFR to get some petrol, he was very lanky, his knees where hitting my helmet.

Stopped for some guy on a bandit but he had a blown out front tyre so there was nowt i could do.

Tried to help bump start a zx7 on the motorway, no luck but his mates were comming with a trailor anyway.

You should always stop it might be the littleist thing wrong and you could save them hours of trouble.

And anyway it might be me sat at the side of the road next time.

I always try and stop if it looks like someone needs help, if I can stop in time!

I've had a few occasions when other bikers have stopped for me so it's only right to return the favour. I'm not very mechanically minded but I may well have some experience of a problem that they don't or I can offer the use of a mobile.

It's good that bikers seem to stick together and help as they do, perhaps the rest of the road going public could learn a thing or two.

I think that bikers are far more friendly to each other than car drivers are. Half of the people who drive cars see everybody else on the roads as their sworn enemy.

I got attacked in my car about 4 years ago by some twat driving a convertible Merc. I was doing 70 in a 50 limit in the outside lane, he came flying up from behind at about 120, stopped about 4ft off my bumper. I was already 20mph over the limit, traffic in the inside lane, couldn't move anywhere.

This guy decided he was going to kick the shit out of me anyway, and that he did. Followed me into Sheffield City Centre. I kinda knew what was coming, so I stopped where there was plenty of witnesses.

Don't remember much after that other than a passer by trying to get this guy off me and saying "stop it, you're gonna go to jail". I could hear an alarm in the background too, which turned out to be a passing bus - its driver had seen what was going on and set off his attack alarm. Meanwhile the whole thing was witnessed by a taxi driver who had stopped to drop a passenger off directly behind me.

He pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea to guilty when he realised there were 9 witnesses on my side, all telling the same story.

So, kudos to bus and taxi drivers. Well, the ones that were there anyway.

Bikers are definately nicer to each other than car drivers. It's almost like a brother/sister hood when you have a bike. Rather than it being a contest (except for a few lame asses who will remain nameless, yet known), it seems to really be a case of everyone else with a bike is your sworn friend before you know them (until they prove otherwise that is )

When i came off the DNA at 80mph after the yoke jamming. About 6/7 cars just drove round my bike that was in the middle of the road and drove away. Nobody stopped. Luckily it was rideable and i was right near my street. (I live out in the country with the shit kickers, street right off on a 60 zone road. Great stuff.)

Yes the bike is fixed now, it was only the link bar that connects the foor pedal part to the selector via a ball joint on either end that had snapped.

Unfortunately though there was nothing that could have been done at the time other than get it home, I pinched a new one off my other bike, but you don't always have the option of carrying around a spare bike with you just in case you need the spares off it, lol...

I think it's true what people have said here, bikers are friends before you know them not like car drivers, let face it, have you ever heard of a road rage attack between two bikers - I think you're more than likley to find them down the pub (exchanging scares) instead of beating the crap out of each other...
