Just nip down to any half decent motor factors and get the right sized copper washer (you'll probably have to buy a small pack of them). It will do the same job. Thumbs Up

Correct me If I'm wrong but copper crusher washers are for brakes, you need an aluminium one for an oil sump bolt.

Don't ask me why!

You can use either. The choice seems to change depending on which metal is cheaper on the open market

There is no single choice of sealing washer for oil sumps, but copper washers and aluminium crush washers are the two most common used ones nowadays.

All they are there to do is to ensure that a seal is made between the face of the sump and the head of the bolt. Thus using either a copper washer or an aluminium crush washer, they are both 'soft' enough to form to the shape required when tightened up and create a perfect seal.

i went down to the nearest motor factor wotsit and they had loadsa different ones, as i had no idea of the size without taking it off, i had no way of knowing so i bought a few packs of what i thought looked about right from memory of the last change.

got home and undid sump and guess what..... none of em fit so the old one is back on for the third time Rolling Eyes aah well seems to be holding up ok and looked decent enough when it came off.

If it's copper then just anneal it to make it soft again. Heat it to cherry red and quench in cold water, simple as.

Lol never mind, though you could have measured the outer diameter of it first without having to take it off, then you should have been able to get something pretty close in size to it. Thumbs Up

Hi guys

It is somewhat reassuring to know that it's ok to make mistakes and not know everything when it comes to biking.

When I first started biking, I assumed that everyone was an expert and I was the only novice

Great site

Regards

Chris
