holes in exhaust

got an old cb350s that i use for work and its started backfiring alot noticed there are a few smallholes inthe downpipes/collector box
whats the cheapest/easiest way to fix this?
i already have blutak and sticking plasters ready to go but what else could i do?
i dont have a welder, could i braze using a small handheld blowtorch ?

Depending on where it is you can get some putty stuff and/or you can get this tape stuff ( check halfrauds) i cant remember the name of it atm

to be honest i must have wasted about £40 on products designed to block up exhaust holes. they always only lasted few weeks nd then you would need to do it again. the exhaust putty cant cope with the high temps of downpipes nor can the bandages.

best option would be to look for a second hand pair in decent condition. you will only end up buying a set anyway, because the constant repair drives you towards insanity.

try your local garage, had the same problem and got it welded for less than a tenner! Cool

Empty bean/soup can held in place by jubliee clips over the top of some exhaust bandage is about the best bodge cost wise.
The tin stops the bandage from being blown away.

All of those putty and foil things are a load of crap and won't last. If you use them and try to get it welded in the future you (or the welder will) will run into problems.

You could try brazing it. Bring it down to clean metal first, rust will just make it fail. Same idea as the putty, if it doesn't work it will be harder to weld in the future.

Personally I'd cut out the rusted through section and weld in some fresh material. Depending on how bad it was I'd wouldn't be charging very much for that type of repair.

If the hole is on a round pipe section then a double layer of coke cans and exhaust putty with hose/jubilee clips will do the job.

If not, then strip the section out, clean it up and have it welded.

Or replace.

I need to replace the heat shield on the top of the collectors on my VFR as it's pitted and loose. TRying to source another at the moment...
