So far this is what I have.

So far it only got halfway home between the MOT station and my house, before it conked out (initial diagnosis is starter motor).

So far I havent actually PAID for it, although I have paid for some air filters and a battery (and the MOT fee).

Not sure what it is, it used to be a suzuki GSX250 and apparently the frame is a YamXS750 (this is rumour rather than verified).
All I know is that its got "Bastard Devilchild Spawn from Hell" written all over it.

But its either gonna be
* a constant cnuting nuisance (proving itself on that front already) ;
* a learning curve for me to dick about as a project bike and learn shit about bikes that I really ought to have known by now after all these years ; or
* a pile of smouldering cinders in Epping Forest before the year is out Mr. Green

Fuckit, I might have to rat it (them handlebars are coming OFF).
I've still not even RIDDEN it yet, wtf am I doing?

The frame looks nothing like an XS750 one but does look like a GSX250 one.

All the best

Thinking Well maybe that's what it is, then.
I'm open to [constructive] suggestion, advice and information.
Almost everybody (and particularly you, Keith, my lovely) knows a FUCK LOAD more about the subject than me Laughing

I have no idea why I'm being told its in some other frame Rolling Eyes

My temper is somewhat *frayed*, and that of mr hellkat is even more frayed - but then, he IS ginger.

the tank suggests it "may" be a yamaha 250/400 u.s. custom(as is possibly the frame), but i think the seat is the wrong shape, the wheels look to be gs or gsx wheels, the tail light is early honda (1970's)...

can't be any more help by just looking at photos...

if i remember correctly Yamaha used to put an asterix before and after thier frame and engine numbers so have a close look at the frame number ...

also look at the engine mounts to determine if those have been changed to match this engine as i doubt that the sook motor would have lined up with yam mounts

edit...

just compared your frame photos with Kieths GSX link, i agree it is a GSX frame just with the tank and seat changed

There's no asterisks on the frame number OR the engine numbers on the LOG BOOK. But I've not looked on the bike itself, which at this present time is probably being lugged into the back of a transit and transported back to Fulham in disgrace Rolling Eyes

Whats a sook motor?

Once its actually *working*, I'll get it back over to my place and have a good look at it.

So prolly this bike has had a bit of thought put into it?

I dunno, it just already has caused me more grief between me and my "bro's" than it really should. Of course, that could just be us being wankers amongst ourselves, lol ... but I'm not shelling out until it fucking works.

The only reason it passed the MOT is cos mr hellkat knows the guy at the shop, who lets him "get away" with certain things, knowing that he will actually get them done. If the bloke who I'm buying it off had taken it for an MOT, it would have failed on front wheel bearings, play in the swingarm bearings and no speedo cable.

the asterisks are only on the frame and cases on Yam' stuff, they're not on the logbook, i wouldn't bother looking for those tho as both components are "sook" Razz ....

does the logbook state that the bike is a yam or are you assuming it is due to the "yamaha" printed across the back of the seat ??

I was assuming it was a Suzuki, cos that is what it says on the logbook (going by the engine).

I only thunk it was a Yam frame, cos thats what I was told it was, but that's been a bit more clarified now, yeah, its probably more Suzuki (cor, thats a bugger to spell, innit*) than Yamaha.

*been more used to Yamahas lately

Love it. Thumbs Up I'm a sucker for contrasting red frames.

Risers + flat bars, will give it cool up and down lines.

Is there anybody local who can come and have a look at this bike for me? Its over in some old guy's yard in Fulham, and it just won't start, and I can't get out of my mates what they think it is why it won't start.

I think they must have more interesting things to do, like babysitting (another word for sitting indoors playing poker on the internet) or watching paint dry or something, and motivating them to get off their arses these days is quite difficult Rolling Eyes

I can get hold of the key but I have no idea why it won't start, and I need help (someone with a bit of mechanical nous more than me) to tell me how to get it going again.

Crying or Very sad

Well, being as I'm a kind of Yokel, and won't come out of the mountains unless its time to buy some more sheep dip - I'm too scared to go to that thair big smoke.

If you could get the bike to Reading I suspect I could poke at it and sound knowledgable. Then I'd call G and get him to come over and poke at it and sound knowledgable. Then, we'd either miraculously find the problem or you'd be able to get some comedy mobile phone footage of various BCF members trying to bump start a little 250...

Sorry, not much help then. Smile
