back wheel became my side wheel briefly eeeeeeeek!!

had my first skid/slide yesterday- eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!!! car in front of the car i was behind, slammed on, car infront slammed on, im coming over one of those raised pedestrian crossing speed hump things (weird looking things) and so press brakes as normal, however due to coming over the bump i hit the back brake too hard and locked up the back wheel, ensue bike wheel becoming a side wheel and I only just caught the bike before it went over!! scary!!

was gutted as it was on the way to my bike lesson in which I was finally going to nail u-turns, the only thing keeping me from being put on the test list, however due to my first loss of control incident, I became a shakey bimbling wreck who wouldnt have been able to pass a cbt never mind ride a 600 not good!! not going to let it stop me, just wanted to share my annoyance in myself as for the first time in 6 months i felt a loss of control and let it briefly beat me

I remember using too much back brake and doing a full 360 on a Dominoes delivery scooter. I stayed on too

I had a similar one mate

I was riding over the Tyne bridge in Newcastle pretty close to rush hour, it was wet and windy, a 4x4 slammed it's brakes on in front of me so I decided to put mine on as you do, I slowed quite well and knew I had enough space..............until I hit the fucking diesel which was all over the lane I was in , the bike wanted to face the opposite way but I wasn't having that, so I let my foot off the back brake and voila got some grip back, enough to stop the back of my bike going into the back of the 4x4. Not sure why the 4x4 broke so hard but I was just happy I didn't lose the bike.

Just gotta put it down to experienc eand learn from it

ah, the old phantom diesel, not had that one myself yet, though i have had the "wet drain cover" and "slippy white lines" at least you saved it like a true pro though, rossi would have been proud

I hit diesel twice,

First time was coming off a roundabout. I put power down and the back wheel just spun up then slid. I assume I hit a man hole or something so steadied it straightened up and put power on slowly again and the wheel still spun, rolled on up the road and tried again it was fine.

The second time was coming onto another roundabout, there was a fire engine on the 3rd exit. with flashing blues I come into the round about and lean over to turn and the bike wouldn't turn it just carried on straight. I leant up and hit the brakes and stopped on the round about. Turns out the fire truck was throwing grit down.

Not had diesel yet, but had my first ice tonight. Luckily, road was shimmering ahead, so I already knew to be careful. Got to a junction and saw that the road had been wet earlier, and was now just hard, shiny and slippy as fuck. With a car behind me. I think I annoyed him by slowing to about 5mph a good 20 feet from the start of the ice, my thinking being "I have no idea how well *I'll* be able to stop on this shit, and if I make it, I sure as hell don't want this guy up my arse doing 20mph"

Crawled in, stopped right on the line (although *right* in the center of the road so Corsa bloke behind me had space to go to my left just in case), and congratulated myself on a job well done.




Then nearly lost the arse end when it came to actually making the turn. Kept it vertical though, so it's all good.

I've had my cbr 125 for 3 months now, i've had loads of slides but i dont have as much the more experienced i get, the ones i had where under different circumstances, one from changing down going around a corner, oh and course the drain cover by leaning over too... I think we all need to experience these to see how we cope with them and how to recover them.

I had a better one than that, a CX500 I had riding down the by-pass at around 90mph then round a big round-a-bout, while I was just opening it up silence from the engine, scream from the back wheel, I was in third I think going around 45mph working my way back up to 90 when the engine seized, I fish tailed for what seemed an eternity then the last fishtail left the bike almost right angle on the duel carraigway and the bike stopped and fell over, I couldnt believe I had kept it shiny side up for that distance the skid mark on the road went on for ever, all the cars had pulled over and another biker came along and helped me get it off the road, I could have clutched but maybe have been high sided if I had, anyway the biker left his girlfriend at the side of the road and ran me home, good man

I had a bit of an icy moment the other night.

On my way to see the GF, coming down a hill on a dark road using the brakes to slow down for the corner at the bottom, suddenly found myself going sideways, SHIT!

Luckily it was only a little wobble, just let off the brakes and it sorted itself out

Yer ive only really hit a wet manhole on my bike so far, luckily the front wheel didn't slide but the back wheel did, caught grip when it hit tarmac again, has you clenching the seat with your backside for a few seconds huh lol.

I was going round a r,bout in heavy rain, very slightly leaned and my front wheel started to slide just as the road surface changed to that grippy stuff that immediatly gripped the tyre and saved me, I shat myself but it aint stopped me enjoying riding in the rain though I watch out even more on that r,bout

The trick is to make losing the back wheel look intentional... something I have only achieved once, on a tight right-hander with a side road to the left. I had just got the GPz and was thrashing along quite happily, come across what I think was a new R6 going quite slow and, cocky little shit I was, decide to overtake him. which I did, grinning like a loon then realised I was going *way* too hot into the corner. locked the rear and when the bike finally stopped it was pointing down the side road. unsure of what to do I just gunned down the road, like that was where I had been going all along. It seemed quite funny after I had stopped shaking... I'm shure I gave R6 man a laugh anyhow
