question about size..

ive been worrying about how when i get my new bike i'll get it home (as i dont have a licence yet) and my dad has just said he has a trailer on the back of his car which is 5ft, by 3ft, the bike is a suzuki gs 125, im guessing that would fit in a trailer that size??

No.

The bike is longer than 5ft, so no chance. Best to get a proper bike trailer or get someone to ride it home for you.

Diagonally you could take up to 5.83ft (maths wasn't wasted on me, see).

With a bit of hanging off the back and dubious use of ropes, I reckon you could manage it.

ah okay, my friend has a full car licence and passed his cbt, but the bike wont be insured or taxed..and the guy who owns the bike wants to get rid of it cos its taking up space, so that narrows my choices a lot.. would him riding it with no insurance or tax a few miles be a very bad idea?

Depends how many miles it is.

I rode with no insurance or tax when collecting my 125, Luton to Stevenage, only about 8 miles, but still a bit of a risk!

Hi

Probably not a good idea to ride it back without insurance. Someone who has just done CBT is not going to be that experienced and is likely to attract attention to themselves. Getting caught with no insurance, especially intentionally, is going to result in a fairly severe penalty. Crashing into someone while uninsured would be a very bad idea.

Suspect you need a trailer around 80" long. diagonally you could squeeze it in a marginally smaller trailer.

If you are careful then you can probably fit the bike in the boot of an estate car, lying on its side. If doing this try draining the oil first (remember to refill it before starting the bike) and also remove the petrol tank and battery and watch out for the indicators.

My GS125 is about 7 foot long. Your mate will be able to get insured for the trip home for near enough nothing.

To get a nsr125 into the boot of my volvo estate we first had to remove the front wheel (5 minute job if you have the tools). So maybe if you took the front wheel off then it would go in the trailor. You would need to measure really.

You need insurance to get tax, not the other way around though. So far as riding without tax - you'd have to check with the local police. You can ride your bike to an MOT centre without tax or MOT if it is booked in, and I would have thought there would be a method of driving from the current owner's to the new owner's property without either. Call the local police station, or pop in, and ask them what the situation would be.
