However, the recent 2.5% cut in VAT not being implemented until Monday. The radio this morning was saying shopkeepers are fearing a dismal weekend with people staying away. That's as they should be racing full pelt with sales of gifts for Xmas.

After this Saturday only 3 weeks and 5 days to Xmas day. Plus it ties in with many monthly paid getting their wages so they can actually go out and buy gifts, food, beer, etc. for Christmas & New Year.

I suspect some of the larger firms may choose to absorb the 2.5% difference just to get people into the shop(s) early and handing over their money.

However, that said, I've no plans to go anywhere.

Well, Just over 2 hours left and so far i've bought nothing. If fact i've not even left the house. Its been a very boring day, and if they do this again next year i'll have to give it a miss.

I failed Bought some CDs as xmas prezzies earlier today and just bought some fuel for the car as I was down to my last 0.8 of a litre. In fairness though I didn't know it was "buy nothing" day today. And nor did the thousands of people getting in my way with bags of shopping in town today.
