Anyone working as a doorman?

Looks like i may be getting made redundant so im gonna need a few backup options.

I was offered a job at a club working the door last year but had no transport at the time so couldnt take it. Is there a course you need to do before you apply for a job or do you just apply anyway?

You need a licence to be a bouncer/doorman now so they might send you off for the course themselves but you'd have to ask.

Not an easy job though, in some areas bouncers get stabbed and beaten the crap out of every so often. Would be alright though apart from having no work in the week .

In all honesty, the course you need to do to get SIA cert is a piece of piss. It's worth doing, as security jobs/doorman jobs are always going, and are handy if you're out of work.
I'm doing that myself now..was an in between job, but 2 years later I am still here. Mind you, I get a pretty good wage and no stress

I have a friend who is a bouncer in Reading, and he doesn't do it for money if you get what I mean.

It doesn't sound nice... he gets a fair bit per hour but as I said its not his main occupation. He's given me detailed descriptions of what goes on so if you want further information then PM me.

Bouncers are indeed tossers.

Doormen on the other hand are not.

Bouncer = there for a power trip and to have their ego stroked.

Doorstaff = there to make sure the punters have a good night in a safe environment.

Doormen give you hassle on the way in, bouncers chuck you out later for being drunk on alcohol their bar sold you.

Totally disagree with you there Ste, far from the same thing.

I worked the door for a fair few years and still use the term "bouncer" as a derogatory one myself. They're the ones who rarely do much other than chat up the flipskirts or cadge free alcohol and sometimes kick off if bored. Sadly they seem to be the usual now, particularly after SIA launched as most cities now seem to have one or two larger companies running things instead of in house employees in the clubs.

Decent money, if you dont mind the risk of getting a glass jabbed in your face. Ive considered it before, an other doormen have asked if I was interested, but its not my kind of thing really.

Indeed, in this day and age the scum you have to deal with on the door is getting worse. Regularly when im standing outside a nightclub having a tab i;ve heard bouncers apologising to gang members because they cant let them in as they are wearing trainers and caps, and they're like "im really sorry mate, nothing against you or your boys, its the management mate, nothing I can do...", probably as they are afraid of getting shot/stabbed.

Arseholes never apologise to me when I get turned away, all I get is

"You're too pissed, now fuck off"

But they probably have a point to be fair......
