Hi

I start a new job on the 15th of December, as a service engineer. Not really relevant, as this is to do with the job I am currently leaving.

As I have handed in my notice they are obviously re advertising my position. Overhead the MD talking, and the starting wage is £3k more than my current wage, rising to £5k more than my current wage after 3 months.

I've been with the company two years, earnt them a fair whack of money, never been late, or done anything to cause disruption.

Can't say I'm sad to leave now, what a bunch of cunts.

Twisted Evil

So, right now, and for the nexts two weeks, I am going to do nothing. I may even turn customers away, or click on the £0.60 a time sponsered links on google. Several times. And dip my nob in the tea.

I remember I got paid £2.80 for my paper round, when I left they split it in half and paid £5 for each round.

Have you had an interview? Did you ask them what they would consider doing to keep you?

If could be worse, the only person my last employers could get to replace me is a consultant charging an obscene daily rate... so when I requested they pay me what I was being offered elsewhere and they said they couldn't afford it they lost out. Very Happy

Don't feel bad about it, it seems they know they will have to offer more to find someone suitable to replace you - take it as a compliment.

Nope, and they are very much of the mentality that if someone wants to leave there is not much point in persuading them to stay. Job enjoyment / motivation and all that.

Compliment, possibly, but if I was being paid what the new bloke will be, I would happily stay for another year because of the flexibilty of time off, distance to travel, and general ease of the job now I know it all.

Such is life, meh.

That's a particularly poor attitude on their behalf. Everyone is always looking for development and/or a better financial reward - I left my previous job predominently because of money but also because I was perfectly capable of the work and therefore I hadn't been offered any opportunity for professional development. I'm now in an easier job, for a 50% payrise with a lot more training and support.
I told my previous employers at my exit interview what they needed to offer me, but they weren't forthcoming... so tough!

You won't regret moving on.

Garth...that is sooo similar to what happened to me. In January I was interviewed and taken on for a 3 month contracted job, at the end of 3 months I was asked to carry on.

In June I finally got my new contract which stated it would finish at the end of July Question Shocked Which seemed a bit pointless...

Then my line manager came to see me, and told me that the company had won a new tender and my job would officially end 31 July, but two new jobs would be created and I could apply.

The full time job was for £7k more than I was earning, yet was half of my job!!!! But they wanted someone with more qualifications and experience than me...the second job was only 16 hours a week and I couldn't really afford to go for it.

So I ended up leaving at the end of my contract. I empathise with how you are feeling, it's not very pleasant is it!?! Sad
