Yes, it's boring as hell. I'd recommend taking an extra hour, though it's not much of a detour distance wise, and coming off the motorway just after Carlisle and taking the A7 up towards Edinbugh, starts of slow but after that it's a nice road with nice scenery all the way, not a lot of petrol stations along it though that I remember so fill up at the start.

You will want stops - even doing that sort of distance in a car you want to stop at least once generally if possible.

If you want to get there quick, get a decent headphone setup; made a big difference doing those distances on my KTM this summer.

clackmanan ain't far from me and I've travelled down to wiltshire before. I stopped 3 times for fuel as someone else said plus I was glad of the stops sports bikes put alot of strain on my wrists even more so with fewer corners (why I've no idea)

Well if you're buying a CBR600RR it'll need fuel before you need a break.

Yes, as part of a longer route.

It's dull as fuck. Just a (mainly) motorway slog from A to B. The kind of thing you do when you're just going somewhere rather than trying to enjoy any of it. Fine if that's all you want to achieve, if you actually want to have any fun then get off the M roads.

I agree with this idea of going up the A7 from Carlisle. Once you cross the border it's a fantastic bit of road and means you can skip out Glasgow as well which could be busy. There's so many nice roads up there it would be a shame to just use the motorway.

Alloa would be quite a good base location to head on a few day trips with the bike further north towards Inverness and Fort William if you've got the time.
