Its about a 40 mile drive to collect so i dont want to have to waste my time, but if it goes cheap would this be a bargain?

Do you believe what he is saying? And could i fix it myself?
Thanks Very Happy

Its a 1980s bike, which seems about right price....

it is also a VF, which I think was renouned at least the 750 versions for chocolate gear cams, the predecessor to the VFR750,

What do you guys think about the apparent fuel problem, do you think this is truthful or being used to cover his back for a bigger problem?

Its always a hard one to judge, he may be an honest person hence coming clean in the advert or like you say he may be covering a bigger problem. Ive learnt to trust no f**ker when buying used but he may be genuine. I suppose it could be as he says an airlock, or maybe a bit of sh*t has been dragged thru the lines when in ran out. Confused

Zero feedback, new seller, and you've only got his say so that it ran at all, let alone well. If it goes cheap, it will be a bargain, but only if you know you have the capability to get it running again. If he is telling the truth, then you might be lucky and just draining the carbs and filling with fresh petrol may be enough - a 10 minute job.

Personally, an 80 mile round trip is only going to cost you around a tenner in fuel and take a couple of hours, so I'd look at it and see if the "almost starts" statement is true, and generally check the bike out.

I was watching this the first time it was listed. What put me off was the 'we rode it till it ran out of petrol'. What kind of mong would do that? More like ragged it till it blew up.

'Relisted due to timewaster' more often than not means the winner went to pick it up, saw that it was wayyy more fucked than described and told them to piss off.

I wouldn't bother.

I love that red frame. black bike look though. Thumbs Up Cool

Be aware that the photo's look to be nearly 4 years old so expect the bike to look more tatty - possibly. Thumbs Up

His other listings are also dated 2005 - he's just a numpty that hasn't set the date in the camera.

is that one of them old metzeler tyres on the front? if so it may have been stood around for a long while in which case it may simply be a fuel clean up.
i would still have a gander though before i parted with cash.
£255 dont sound too bad even if you had to break it and sell the parts on.

i agree, a short ride out with a trailer and 200 quid in your pocket might see you coming home with a new toy .....

alternatively you could end up telling him he's wasted your time and try to be a little more honest in his descriptions ....

it's a bike i'd want to see before making a decision to buy, but just because you make a winning bid doesn't mean you "have" to buy an incorrectly described shitter....

i won a bike that was about 150 miles from home for 500quid, drove up there with a trailer to collect but before i put the money in the guys hand i asked and got a test ride as well as looked the bike over, his description was honest and accurate apart from a slight clutch drag which didn't appear till after the engine was up to full running temperature, i didn't worry about it and bought the bike ....

i won another parts bike that was described as a 600 Bandit in bits, 150 miles later it turned out to be a "teapot" (gsxf600) he gave me the bike for wasting my time as i'd only bidded on it because i wanted the "bandit" frame, that was a 300 mile round journey for a pile of parts that i still have laying around 10 months later ....

sometimes you get the bargain you're after, sometimes you don't, i really personally don't see that bike as a bargain, it's about 25 years old, doesn't run so you can't assess the engine and he wants in excess of 200quid, i bought a running GS550l for 100quid a few months ago for the g/friend, then bought another non-runner for parts which i keep meaning to fire up for a grand total of 47quid

I went to look at a really rusty one of them that had been sat in a damp garage with perished tyres and all the chrome pitted, I said £25, he said £250, I walked away Laughing

NightMare- is the "spare" GS550 an E or an L, if it's an E I might be interested in a few bits, like the tailpiece.

they are both "L" models, i was hoping the second one was going to be an "E" myself as i had plans for it, it was too cheap to walk away from tho...

it'll probably end up chopped once i get the present build finished due to there being parts already missing

Keep bidding and make him pay extortionate fees Laughing

Does my head in when sellers just put soldsoldsolddonotbid on listings, just cancel the listing ffs. It aint difficult, if you can't manage it, you shouldn't be selling on ebay!

I'd like one to chop myself someday. Mine cost a fair bit more than both of yours put together sadly, think you got a good deal there, but it does mean I'm less inclined to take an angle grinder to it!

you should learn a little patience....

it might not be rocket science to you, i've got roughly 60 positive feedback but i haven't sold a thing on ebay and have absolutely no idea how to cancel a listing and would most likely struggle....

i'd be really pissed at you if you spitefully generated me a big ebay bill Sad
