Hey just wanted to know peoples opinions on these aftermarket kits floating about.

I've bought a CBR400 nc29 with quite a bit of pannel damage, so looks like i'm gonna have to replace nearly all the pannels.

I've seen these on ebay:
https://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w125/motofairings/nc29/nc29%203/nc29%204/P6090044.jpg

going for around £300

Then there is also the tyga/k-conversions bodykits which i do like:
https://www.k-conversions.co.uk/images/Picture%20013_02.jpg

however there around £800-£1000.

Also i'm not sure of the build quality and fit. I have seen some on here which are amazing!!!

Or should i just source some orignals which could be painstaking scouring ebay for a few months.

What do you think??

Thentop ones will be chinky fairing and probaly cost £200-£400, there not brilliant but at the same time you get what you pay for nd will have shiney bike for while. The tyga ones whilst being a better fit at very dear and will need to be painted, I suggestion is if you want it tarted buy the chinky ones but keep the orginals maybe in your spare time you could sand them down and paint them as a project for when the chinky ones look shit and manky.

A mate of mine bought the "WEST" liveried chinky ones, apparently you need to really take your time fitting them to get them on properly,
although the end result does look quite smart!
When you get up real close to the bike "nitpicking-close" there are a few bits that dont quite match up, but generally you`ll never study it up that close.
The plastics themselves actually look really good, its just the plastic used i think could be quite brittle in a crash I.e falling off the side stand or a low speed spill, I`d guess they`d just crack, rather than deforming and scratching.
For the Money the chinese fairings do a great job of tidying up a tatty bike, just remember, you`ll have to get your tank sprayed to match and if you want to be entirely legal tell the dvla the colours changed, depends how far off the colours are with the V5 though my V5 says red and black so black and not much yellow isnt too far off Mr. Green

Nope, why would they? All the info is on the Police National Computer when they enter the registration number, details sourced from DVLA. Also it's always worth telling your insurance things like that as it gives them one less thing to try to use as a get out for paying up.

At a guess i would say your insurance is quite possibly void due to incorrect colour stated. Insurance companies will look for any and every get out clause if you make a claim, something so obvious like incorrect colour would have them laughing all the way to the bank me thinks???

that really does sound like utter bollocks (it actually is) ....

i change the colour of my bikes to suit myself as and when i want to and i've never notified dvla, the only thing it does is confuse plod ...

i've had a goldwing written off in a Smidsy incident that i had resprayed the colour of my choice, the assessor didn't comment on the colour change, the insurance didn't wriggle ...

colour doesn't really matter to any great degree, it's more for matching information should the bike/car be used in a crime or be involved in an accident ....

having a different colour recorded just makes some coppers "curious"

It may void it if it came to a theft claim, Maybe you pay slightly less insurance because a yellow bike is less desirable than a black one.

you really are clutching at straws trying to scaremonger (do you read the Sun ?? ), since when has it been asked by insurance companies what colour your bike or car is ??

the only time insurance companies might be interested in the paint on your bike is if you have stated that you've had an expensive custom job done and you want to know if it would be covered as part of an agreed valuation

there is some truth in the whole paint and insurance thing, certainly is in the car world.

take car a, standard red paint, has a bump needs a front quarter panel, costs £1000.

take car b, has some stupid camoflaur, pearl, flakes and crap paint job, has a bump needs a front quarter panel costs £5000 as they can't match the colour and have to spray the whole car.

think an insurance company will be happy at you not declaring this modification.....

Personally I think the Tyga kits for the CBR400 look great, as the original fairings (IMO) make it look really dated, this brings it bang up to date Thumbs Up

It's a classic early 90's bike, it's curves are where they should be.

I don't like to see them turned into identikit pointy efforts.

They don't need to because as soon as you give them the registration it is all there. They use anything to wriggle out of payments nowadays and IMO its not worth the hassle and risk for the price of a phone call to let them know the colour has been changed. Some colours are more desirable than others.

Dont Tyga it. Craig will tell you. They are god awful plastics. (Well, they are actually fiberglass) and not worth their money at all.

They dont "Click" into place like the OEM Honda panels do. Although I guess them chinkey fairings dont either.

You can pick up a full set of painted plastics from Hong Kong (on ebay) for around £350 inc postage. I've heard of people saying the stickers dont line up properly where they cross over the panels, but other than that they are sound.

What hard ship is there in peeling the sticker off and getting another made up at a sign writer for about £5?

OR you could just pick the plastics where the stickers dont go across the panel joins.

Tyga Kits are very un-tasteful. And as you can see, Its only the young 16/17 year olds who wet their pants over them.

THEN you will get your 600 riders who will go around bragging they have just spanked a Honda Fireblade off the lights. Because your 400 is dressed up as something it clearly isnt.

Also the engine cases look pants where the Tyga fairings sit around them.

Just stay with the Honda CBR fairings. One of the most iconic bikes going. Thumbs Up

MudSkipper. I miss mine too. Crying or Very sad

ok ok lets put it this way ....

your bike gets nicked there's gonna be one of four things happen ...

it gets broke for parts ..

it gets ragged around and dumped/sprayed with aerosols/smashed up (mebbe set fire to)..

or it gets a new number plate and resprayed/bodywork changed and some kid spends the next few months running around on your bike....

or finally you get really lucky and it's found in a matter of minutes before any real damage is done ....

but like i said (the same as someone else pointed out) the only time it will matter is if you have a fancy expensive custom paintjob done .....

even then your logbook will usually only have written on it one or two colours, for example if you have a flip flop green/gold the logbook would most likely have just "green/gold", which gives no indication of it's value, which means you'll be looking for an "agreed valuation"...

i really don't think it's going to matter too much what colour your bike is on the logbook if it's nothing exceptional and to date it's caused me no problems
