Have you noticed that they're not actually waterproof though? They 'shed light precipitation', half an hour in the uk and you'd have wet hands for your $1100.

That's only wired's reporting, they're only really talking about the fireproof part. Follow through to the manufacturer's site and part of the $1100 'system' is the poseidon which are waterproof.
