bike gear what to buy?

hey,
i only have enough money to buy either a pair of boots or a pair of decent textile trouser's im really unsure on what to buy as i dont really know what will benefit me more on the road.

any help would be great.

just incase u need the sort of bike it is a cagiva mito evo. if it makes any difference at all

It depends what means more to you.... skin or feet. I'd go for feet.

Sorry if I've put you off a little but it's reality mate, if you're not comfortable with it don't ride until you have both boots and pants.

^ yeah what he said. Cuts and grazes heal but a smashed up ankle can cause major problems.

Get some cheap BMX knee pads and wear em under your jeans as well.

Get Boots first and try to wear a couple of layers of jeans

i really would go for both (well full kit really), 70mph on tarmac in jeans and trainers is not good - this was jeans trainers and an arlen ness textile jacket.....

They weren't bike jeans, they were tesco ones lol. My legs got off pretty lightly, feet obviously ruined, jacket was a let down, burnt through, rode up etc. RST gloves & cheap agv kinetic lid were great though.

If i had leathers on i would have walked away and gone work the next day, those pics above are after about 4 weeks, its been 9 now & i'm still off work

If its a straight choice between boots and trousers i would pick boots.

They are more usefull, for gearchanges, waterproofing (gore-tex is your friend) and protection,

Google "Spada Flage", Waterproof/Warm textile trousers for £40, they served me well in my first few years biking, it took me 5 years to get round to a pair of leather trousers, and now i love them.

Beg and borrow,

you got any biker mates most have old kit laying about in the back of the wardrobe,
if there any kind of mate they will lend you what they have to save you from getting gravel rash and smashed bones

You could get boots plus everything else except helmet for less than £100

I got some gear I want rid of. as it's just taking up space.

Got some Nitro NB40 boots and some cheap Skintan textile trousers to suit 34" medium to long leg.

Boots free, trousers £30 as they cost me £60 and I only wore them for my test. £10 P&P.

A decent pair of boots should be your first purchase without a doubt, I'll happily ride in regular jeans but I'd never ride anywhere without proper boots on, I quite like my feet the way they are so I don't fancy rearranging them anytime soon

Maybe you should consider a decent pair of armored riding jeans from Hood or Draggin? They cost about the same as a decent branded pair but have a much higher waist line (Be sure to wear a belt with them though) and an aramid lining that should prevent injuries like those shown above. Plus they are so much more convenient than Textiles

the first year i got my bike i was on gloves and helmet only. thinking back i don't know how the hell i coped with the cold since i use to ride with a shirt or tee shirt most of the time through winter aswell.

first thing i bought was a jacket to help me with the cold. then boots because it makes your gear changes and everything else really easy. trousers came after 3 years of riding.

i used to wear a pair of leather trouser's i got from a charity shop under a pair of jeans to hide um so i did'nt look gay, saved my arse when some knob pulled out from the left i hit the brakes right on top of a man hole cover bike went down...... down the road on my arse jeans wore through but the cheap leather trouser's saved me from gravel rash,

also had a pair of work boots on with a leather jacket that came with the bike n gloves,

brought frank thomas anti freeze texile jacket n trouser's with removable lining the jacket linning can be worn in the summer as a jacket it even takes the armour from the outer jacket worth it's weight in gold keep out the cold nicely in winter and doubles up as summer gear to,
