Cub 90 or not?

I have recently been offered a cub 90 by a mate for a very low price. Its a late 80's model stepspeed or something, and its absolutely immaculate. I currently have a cg125 but I am thinking of takin him up on the offer as my bike keeps giving me grief. But not sure if i would look a total prat.

What do yous think, and what could be done to it to make it look less grannyish.

If you want style, flair and speed don't do it. If you want economy, reliability and to stick two fingers up the the biking fascisti go for it.

I had a c70 when I was a lad, never let me down despite terrible abuse, til I rode it headfirst into a hedge, drunk. Try not to do that.

i own a fleet of C70's (well, only 3) and for getting around in traffic they can't be beat.
cheap insurance, cheap on fuel, and cheap to repair (if you do it yourself)
and the retro look of the bike is a classic bit of design

Mate Get it. Then buy yourself a YX160 engine for it (20bhp).

Spares are everywhere for them.

CRF50 parts fit, Monkey bike parts fit, And of course any pit bike parts will more or less fit engine wise.

Buy it and if it's too uncool to be seen out on sell it or swap it for something 'cooler'. One thing you can count on is that you can always sell it again.

Get it and never need to buy engine oil again, just put in used chip oil from your local chippie.

Check it has been welded up around the join between the fuel tank, rear mudguard and frame (look up in there with a torch). They were a press-fit and weren't always all that well pressed together.

Quite common for them to begin to come apart there and MOT testers love to fail them on this. Most will have been welded up by now.

Don't do anything to make it look "less grannyish", just leave it standard. Those in the know know that C90s are cool. Those who don't think they are cool are only showing their ignorance.

A C90 teaches you how to stop taking yourself too seriously.

If someone starts giving you hassle for riding one, just pop a massive wheelie and keep it up there until you are out of sight while giving them the finger over your shoulder with your left hand (this is not difficult on a C90).

Go for the bike you like and gives you more pleasure and dont get a bike to impress other bikers, lesson number one cause its you riding it, real bikers appreciate bikes of all styles and sizes cause two wheels is two wheels while sheep fall in line with the need to impress,

Do it. I used to have a C90 and it was an absolutely brilliant little thing.

Good on fuel, cheap parts, easy to fix, reliable...what everyone else has said, basically.
