Anyone stayed at the Birmingham Broadway Plaza TL or the newer Birmingham Fort Dunlop? I'm back up in the area and need somewhere to kip for a couple of nights and was just wondering if either of these were definite "avoid" places! My experience with TL is mixed... some are excellent and others are rubbish so just wanted some views from you wonderful folks! Very Happy

Never been a fan of TL, even the new ones are somewhat lacking. If you can afford a bit extra go for a Premier Travel Inn. Thumbs Up (PTI's always have a boozer next door. Wink )

That's a superb tip - there's two of them just off Broad street which is ideal for pubs and bars. I shall be looking into them immediately Thumbs Up

that said mick is correct in that a lot lack on site facilities, especially those on motorways

You could try Jury's Inn on Broad Street or Hotel Ibis as well in the Chinese Quarter. There is an ETAP as well if you want a really cheapo room (just like the ETAP's you get in France).

I always have a look on this site when I get a Brum hotel.

I've stayed in lots of Premier Travel Inns all over the UK and they all seem better than the Travelodges that I've stayed in. The Travelodges all seem a bit grubbier and don't always have the most - how can I put it - modern facilities.

I stayed in a pub called The Pepper Mill in Coleshill last year for the NEC. Avoid at all costs! I got up in the morning to go to the NEC and at about 8.30 I tried to make my way downstairs. Now the stairs was in the middle of the building with no windows and all the lights were out. I had to feel my way down the stairs in pitch blackness and try to find the handle of the door to let myself out into the bar. When I got to the bar there was no-one around. I called and called but to no avail. I ended up leaving through the fire exit. I never paid for my room either.

My boss asked me what it was like there when I got back on the Monday (he was looking for a place to stay the following weekend for the NEC) and I told him it was OK - so he could have a taste of what he had booked for me.

When he got back he told me that the toilet wouldn't work (it was one of those saniflow shit-chopper-upper toilets) and accused me of blocking it up. Laughing Also he had to go out the fire exit in the morning too. The landlord made sure he paid for both of us the night before though heh. Apparently the room my boss stayed in was so bad that he slept fully clothed on top of the bed clothes.

The room didn't bother me too much but then again I'd sleep anywhere.
