write off....book price??

i had an off on friday and will be claiming on my insurance as it was fully my fault. wet road-corner-leaves etc.

having looked at the damage myself i am fairly certain they will write the bike off as everything on the left side is damaged but am unsure what the "book price" is going to reflect (it's a w reg yamaha r6 in a1 condition prior to crash). having looked at local dealers i would expect to pay about £3000-£3100 to replace with same year and milage as mine. does the book price reflect this or will it be priced at trade prices. never had to deal with insurance before so i am a novice to this and don't want to get too fleeced.

any help would be good

£3000-£3100 is ridiculously optimistic for a 2000 R6. I wouldn't pay much more than 2200, and that's if it was a minter.

Expect to get offered about 1500 if that.

The bikes on ebay of a similar year appear to be going for around the 2k mark.

it should be written off at that age. try and buy the bike back from them, you will get it cheap and it will be cheap to sort. ebay is your friend

i agree that parkers says about £2200 but i have searched local ads on autotrader and dealers and to get the same milage and year is about the £3k mark. so should i accept that i will have to pay about £1k if they offer £1500 to be back in the same position as before the accident?

CAP book for December shows retail price of £2550 and a part-ex price of £1750. That's with 26,000 miles on the clock. Prices seem to have held on that since November. You will probably realistically get 2k after your excess.

If you don't like their first offer you can refuse it and ask them for a better one.

Ignore Parkers and eBay. Glass Guide is what a lot of dealers will be using to price your bike. It's usually on the high side retail-prices-wise, which is in you favour.

Unless you know someone in the trade who can let you see a recent copy you can go to https://www.glass.co.uk/ for an individual valuation (£3.50).

The insurance company should be ideally offering you amount that it would be to buy the same bike in the same condition from a trader. They never do. IME a photocopy from the glass guide usually pushes them in the right direction. Sometimes a few ads from Bike Trader helps too.

they never pay out what you are expecting .
go to your local dealer to look at bikes and tell them you had an off and are waiting for the cheque.
see if they will give you the info on prices out of there little green book.then forward this along with adverts from auto trader .
if they only go up a little from what they offer thats not too bad.

also that bike would make an ideal track day tool so look into what you would need to get it rideable with an aftermarket fairing..this could be a winter project then sell it in spring when people are on the look out for track bikes,this may help offset some of the cost of getting a new bike..

thank you everyone for your replies. my bike is was in absolutely a1 condition prior to accident and has 13000 miles on the clock if that affects the prices you have quoted above.

what kind of amount would you expect me to be able to buy the bike back for when the insurance payout. i am thinking of repairing as i know the history of the bike and know how much i have loved it.

I got over book price for my 98 Fazer due to it being in immaculate condition. I actually got £50 more than i paid at a dealer.

That was with Carol Nash. Can't remember the insurance company name but will look it up when I get home.

You can reject the insurance offer as too low if you think it is. `You will need evidence ie ads, recent completed ebay sales to show the offer is unrealistic. But you may be pleasantly surprised. Hope so

If you read your policy,it will give specifics of how you claim will be settled.
This would say something like in the event of the bike being beyond economical repair we will settle at "Glasses guide" or "Market value" or "policy value" ,if you dispute the value most insurers will look to ask you to provide market examples of the same age and type of bike that warrant them reviewing the value.
The exception being a "Policy value " policy,whereby if glasses guide has it at 3k but you have told them its worth "2.5k" then the declared value applies,check you policy wording.The answer is there in print.

Previous owner of my R6 wrote it off.
Was a category D because smashed headlight, cracked nose cone + tail unit and twisted rear subframe.
Got a grand after buying the bike back and his excess.
Cost 300 quid to buy it back.
Stop looking at stupid dealer prices, about 400 quid for each fairing.
I bought a full fairing set in near mint condition for 300 quid.

Insurance companies look at eBay, MCN and Auto trader and get a average price to replace your bike, when I wrote my VTR off it was insured for £2k but they gave me £2400 based on what it would cost to buy another
