Hey,

Passed my A2 this morning, still buzzing Very Happy Unfortunately though, I've got three points on my provisional for speeding (obviously not my fault) - will these be carried over onto my real license? I hope they wont, but I think they will...

Also, in terms of buying a new bike, would you guys recommend one now, or waiting til spring when the weathers less naff? Im on a Virgago 125 at the moment, was looking at a Fazer, Hornet or Bandit (with restriction kit) - yay or nay? I dont really fancy something too sporty, its just gotta do 70 and be able to carry stuff Smile

Any help at all would really be appreciated!

Omar

They will - the licence you have now IS your real licence. As of this morning though you are authorised to ride a sub 33bhp motorbike without learner restrictions

Well done and welcome to BCF

I bounced down to London and back at the weekend, with panniers on my mighty, mighty 24bhp 250cc bike cruising at 70 all the way. Any 33bhp should do it with ease. In fact I would be shocked if you couldn't see a ton your clocks when required.

If you are in no rush then keep your eyes open - there are some bargains to be had at this time of year, especially with secondhand bikes.

You'll carry the points over, but they won't count towards the 6 points/new licence holder revocation rule if you fall under that category.

They will count towards the 12 points in 3 years/ban rule though.

Hmm are you sure? If you get 6 points on your provisional and then pass your test. 1 point more and your license will be revoked.

So yes, they will carry over and you will have 3 points on your lovely pink license.

New driver status only starts when you get your first full licence, so provisional aquired points don't affect it.

I am afraid they do because the points will be 'live' on his licence. If he picks up 3 points his licence will be revoked. it's all in the New Drivers Act.

if you end up getting a GSXR 600 SRAD, i have loads of restrictor kits for sale... as well as a restricted SRAD funnily enough (although im not selling it).

takes it quite well, although dont expect to be able to rev past 9k in the lower gears, or 7k in the higher ones. (same on most restricted inline 4 600's though)

(2) For the purposes of this Act, a person becomes a qualified driver on the first occasion on which he passes—
(a) any test of competence to drive mentioned in paragraph (a) or (c) of section 89(1) of the [1988 c. 52.] Road Traffic Act 1988;

he would need to get 9 points from the date of passing his first test to get his licence revoked under the New Drivers Act, the 3 from before passing his test don't affect that.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Thats excellent news, thanks for quoting that yen-powell, although I'll still err on the side of caution - im a student and cant really afford to be giving the dsa £60 Smile

I'm not in a massive rush to get something bigger, I'm keeping my eyes peeled though. Ebay looks promising - I've had a look in a couple of bike shops and they generally seem much more pricey.

In the meantime if anyone's after a Virgago 125, let me know!

There was a time when I had 11 points within the three year period and got pulled for doing 36mph in a 30mph zone. Luckily the police mucked up on their procedure and I got away with it (I was in first gear with my mate hanging off the back with his legs in the air at the time).

It's a sobering moment when you realise you may lose your licence even for a little while. Managed to stay points free since 1986 (touch wood). I think the sobbing and begging when pulled over has helped.

Lost my licence for 4 weeks in 2005 after sufffering a stroke and it was poxy walking (well limping and dragging bits) everywhere or horror of horrors, getting a bus with the poor people........ Thumbs Down

Oh dear gods read it again, slower this time.

The three on his licence remain live on his licence. If in the probationary period you which you just quoted the timescale for a new driver/rider they arrive at a total of 6 or more live points then their licence will be revoked.

Meaning they have to apply for a provisional licence (which will have the six points live on it), take a new CBT, theory test and practical test.

If a driver gets 12 points live on his/her licence at the same time then they get a TS99 which is a driving ban.

(c) the penalty points to be taken into account under section 29 of the [1988 c. 53.] Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 on that occasion number six or more;

(e) the person’s licence shows the date on which he became a qualified driver, or that date has been shown by other evidence in the proceedings; and
(f) it appears to the court, in the light of the order and the date so shown, that the offence was committed during the person’s probationary period.

(b) if the court does not order him to be disqualified—
(i) particulars of the offence, including the date when it was committed, and
(ii) the penalty points to be attributed to the offence.
(2) Where the court does not order the person convicted to be disqualified, it need not make an order under subsection (1) above if for special reasons it thinks fit not to do so.
(3) In relation to Scotland, references in this section to the court include the district court.
(4) This section is subject to section 48 of this Act.

Basically you get another 3 points you've lost your license.

Unless you already had a car license for 2 years or more.

Just don't speed and if you do get caught, get your dad to take the points, that's what i'd do.

If it wasn't for the internet it wouldn't be worth turning up to work sometimes.

That was my favourite so far - how extreme is the position though? I go paragliding when I can, which involves me carrying a mahoosive rucksack. I dont drive so dont really want to be leaning forward that much.

Im about 6ft - what sort of position does the hornet have - upright or leaning forward?

ist more sit up, like a supermoto type. but its worth just popping down to the local dealer and sitting an all of them thats what i done. sat on the gsxr and it was more laydown, and then the faser that was ok but the hornets just briliant. its worth getting a decent rucksace that the load it carried at the lower back, but the hornets are used for dispatch riding in london so can carry some load, and with the 33bhp restriction it will be going 100 still, just a little off the acelration.
