You'll need to get them powder coated otherwise ordinary paint will flake off.

Loads of places do it that advertise in the back of MCN, but I would try the yellow pages first because motorcycle specialists can charge bikers more for being "specialist" when in fact its the same for anything you want to powder coat.

I would say look for something like "Shot blasting and powder coating" in the yellow pages. HTH! Thumbs Up

Oh and from what I can tell, the specialists charge £30 per wheel plus postage, whereas a local place might be cheaper, and you wouldn't need to pay postage (obviously).

I spoke to keith about this. He said the people that aren't specialised for powdercoating bike wheels use a different type of coating and so over time it goes dull (reacts with water and salt etc)

Although not all are like this, it is worth taking into concideration. £30 a wheel sounds very cheap, if you are right about that I could be tempted Razz

I may be wrong but I do not think that you can get metallics with powdercoating, or at least this is what I was told about 4years back.

Hi

Industrial powder coaters can use a different powder. This looks fine when new but goes dull with time (think it is UV light that does it). Unfortunatly this has happened with the Aprilia frame I had done.

You can get metallic finishes. The problem is that it is not going to be a close match for normal paint (the powder coaters tend to have a far smaller range of colours).

£30 a wheel is probably not too bad. I have seen people quoting £60 a wheel, including new wheel bearings, etc. Car wheels are generally around £25 +vat.

Normal paint will last for quite a while, but probably only if you properly prepare the wheels before painting.

All the best

Keith

My wheels were around £40 for a pair to have them blasted and powder coated black.

In the hemel hempsted area if you want contact details.

Got quoted £100's by the larger places!

P&R Coatings, Berkhamsted 01442 873962.

Its a smalish place, so its a friendly service. I had mine done 2 years ago, so it might of gone up slightly. Took the wheels down stripped completly and he does all the masking, blasting and coating.

Stuart.

How long does it usually take? I'm looking to get the spokes sprayed and the rims polished on my bike, does anyone know anywhere relatively close to London that could do it?
