I am looking at buying an Optimate 4 for my bike battery, can anyone tell me if this will also work for a car battery?

Optimate's only do 12V batteries from 2.5aH to 50aH. Car batteries tend to be over 50aH, but it depends on your exact model.

I have the Accumate version.
Works very well on bike batteries.
However, recently had to recharge my father's car battery with it.
It took a while (connected for 2 day, didn't check for green light 'till end of day 2) but got it from flat (unable to turn over) to a full charge and able to start.

Used Optimates on car batteries loads of times. Work fine. Just that a car battery will take a hell of a lot longer to charge.

I bought a Halfords Fully Automatic charger about 10 yeas ago, they operate like an Optimate etc... in that they charge then maintain. They can be used on car or bike, sealed or un-sealed, gel or normal batteries, mine cost around £25 at the time but it's done me well and as it is so versatile it's well worth the cost.

Remember that always leaving your bike connected to an Optimate (or similar) can hide problems such as reg/rect not working correctly.

Although I have no doubt they will be useful when you have a draining Immobiliser or heated grips.

As above. I bought one the other week for use on my 125 and my dad's landrover.

Shop tried to get me to by the oxford version however i've heard some bad reports about them.

Went for the optimate 4 and its been fine.

The thing is it's max charge is 0.8A. Hence to charge a 80AH battery from zero will take 100 hours. The optimate 4 has a cut off charge time of 48 hours so you have to turn it off after two days and reset it.

Clever little beast though and recovered my 12AH 125 battery from dead in a day and gave it a clean bill of health.

Got mine form mds batteries on enfield on ebay.

I've got an Oxford charger.

Worked fine on my CBR125 battery, but when I recently charged my CG battery, the fuse blew upon the battery's re-insertion. I don't know if this was directly because of the charger though...I'd be surprised if it was.
