In my hopeless daily trawl of cheap bikes on ebay, I've started to notice patterns of relisted bikes.

Sometimes they relist shouting "RELISTED DUE TO TIMEWASTER IDIOT BLAH BLAH..." which I take to mean the bike was not as described, and the winner walked away. Laughing

Reserves, I hate reserves. On bikes worth over a grand, perhaps. But they're so offputting and it's annoying to not always be sure whether a reserve is priced way out of your league. And so time wasted watching it. Rolling Eyes

But this, this one really narked me.

I scraped £1,500 for my '96 gullarm with original bodywork, in the middle of summer.

And he wants the same, mid-winter, mid-recession, for something 8 years older, with shit mismatched chinese fairings?

Just because he 'has spent a lot on her'?

Everybody knows that you rarely get a fraction back of money you spend on an old bike.

Not ranting, I know how ebay works etc...just frustrated and exasperated at some of the overpriced shit on there.

He is going a bit far.....but I wouldn't mind a key start.

Not that I'd use it often but think of the flash git value Twisted Evil .

Something shifty about new fairings though, would make me think has it been dropped...

???? Is that because you have to take it to bits and then bump it down the road to get it to start ????

Sorry but why oh why do people not check the spelling and read the add to see if it makes sense.....

They can set the price as high as they like. All they are doing is wasting their time and money as it will most likely never sell..

Best you can do is email with a realistic offer and see if they take it.

Because people are general deluded as to the worth of things.....

They forget the general principle of:

Things are only worth what other people will pay for them.......or what you value it for the in use value...

This is the first year I've not had a winter bike, I just can't find one?

Like you I've been trawling ebay and I'm amazed how much people are asking for and how much people are paying. No idea why? Maybe I just fussy.

When I sell a bike on Ebay I start the bidding at the minimum price I would take with no reserve, never failed me.

Don't mean to come across as being funny, but I would have to REALLY want the bike to buy it from someone who couldn't even be bothered to check the spelling and grammar of their advert.

If they put such pathetic effort into finding a suitable buyer then how much effort have they put into caring for the old girl of a bike?

My brother in law advertised his Dads car on ebay with a similar, one sentence but 10 line advert in bright red lettering offering almost no useful information about the car. Not surprisingly is got not a single bid or even watcher.

I've seen tons of Africa twins start at 99p, they always jump to about £1300-£2000 on the last day.

Yup, any listing with longer that 24 hours to go at less than 200 will no way stay that low.

Seriously, I have been checking ebay almost twice daily for a cheap bike for a solid 9 weeks.

Morale has gone >>>>>>that way.

wonder if Sickpup still has that ancient NC21 for sale he tried to hawk it to me twice. Or his ER5 which he has ridden into the ground. Means you have to travel to London though , which is a £20 national express ticket away , and £30 petrol back.

Can't say you didn't have the chance!!! I did let it go for not a lot of money, and it was a belter. The guy who bought it was obviously going to lavish her and has promised me first refusal. I sometimes want to cry when I think about it! If I held on I could have got a fair bit more but it did need new sprockets to be honest.

Yes but you refused my pretext of coming round to your house to come have a look, which would mean I would have to find another pretext ie go into a news agent get something off the top shelf as a pretext and be given lots of dirty looks.

Certainly is! I've had the bike for over 5 years. It has served me well! Seeing as I was only commuting 99.9% of the time, there was no real need for me to ever get anything else. It was like commuting for nearly free!

Whereas the Spider on the other hand is rather pricey to run. Laughing

I'd be surprised if it didn't reach £650. Even at that price a London dealer would buy it and punt it out for £1100.

Bad adverts with dodgy spelling can get you a bargain sometimes because they're not as easily found and get less interest.
