Varadero wont start.....?

Hi all,

Moved the bikes from garage to garage in the back of a van last week, worked well, no glitches or scratches.

The XLR started first time I got it bump started, Excellent, things were progressing really well...Untill. We got onto the Varadero.

These bikes have been sitting idle for many, many months, something stupid like 200miles is on the odometer of the Varadero since mid 2002 and 120ish miles on the XLR since the same time.

I ran them down to empty the last time I took them out, then I filled them up for storage during the winter months - Bad Idea!!

Both batteries were also dead, unsurprisingly.

As I mentioned earlier the XLR started first time on a bump start, got to the Varadero and tried three or four times down a steep hill, hard work pushing that heavy weight up and down a hill all afternoon, I decided to forget that idea and charge up the battery, instead of charging it in 12v form I charged it in 6v form- what an idiot. lol.

A New battery later and the Varadero still wont start. The cause being the fuel that's inside the engine and inside the tank already.

So, I need some guidelines as to how I should go about removing the fuel that's inside the carbs/engine and tank and get the Varadero working again. What do I need to do this? What kind of tools, where should I look for certain screws to undo and so fourth.

It's my project for this afternoon, so I'll be checking into this thread later on....Thanks In advanced folks!

The easiest way would be to take out the sparkies, light them and clean them, to get all the fuel and other muck off.
Then the carbs on the Varadero should have a drain screw where you can empty them of the crappy fuel. This is usually on or around the bottom.
You could also try some carb cleaner, as this will also work like petrol and ignite in the cylinder.
That's how I had to fix my RF which had the same kinda symptoms.
