Jesus, I've got Shaun turning up tomorrow, to do his gig in North London, and staying for the weekend, and I have just realised I have got no food in Laughing

I have got a bit of steak, some pork belly and some bacon (all frozen)
Do Northerners eat steak?
I thought they only et corned beef (well ... Mingles goes mental for it) and thats nearly all gone anyway.

Should I buy in some lard and Hovis, or something?
What do people from Oop North eat, then?
Do they eat "normal" things like Mixed Olive Salad with Feta, ripe Brie, etc? Cos that's the only other things I've got in the fridge Laughing (apart from a carton of Red Bull and three boxes of orange juice)

Wink

A tin of spam and a battered mars bar should do it.

Not that northern chris-red Laughing

Everyone up here loves steaks, apart from folk that eat grass and similar rabbit food.

I guess we love our proper roasts (beef, roasties, yorkshire puds, etc etc) and can't beat a good chippy Very Happy

Oh and i don't even have a clue what them 2 'meals' are that you said Laughing Razz

you know perfectly well what northerners eat, as you told him how to make his oatiecakes

otherwise, baked beans, oven chips, fish fingers, sausages, sliced bread etc

do not be tempted to feed northerners foreign stuff that trendy londoners like, like olives

i have a friend who was 18 before he was willing to try pizza as it was foreign, and then he was 24 before he was willing to try curry. Most are a bit more adventurous than him tho.

Poncey food will be looked at with suspicion though.

Pie. It's all about the pies.

Thats why they have the holes in the top, so northerners can carry 4 per hand (copyright Dave Spikey) Wink

Have you ever thought of just asking the fellow?

Fuxache, I was saving that steak for, ermmmm, next week Laughing

I didnt give him a recipe for oaticakes, Col ... I just found the website with some on, or something, or maybe Anita did, god can't remember. But good point: fish fingers ... I like fish fingers, and I recall Shaun saying he likes fish finger sandwiches. I dunno if we even have any baked beans in the house Laughing I rarely eat them and Anita likes spaghetti hoops (but then she's half Italian, what can you expect, LOL).

Those aren't "meals", Matt ... they're just munchies!
Anyway, my posh food is too good for everyone else in the house as well. Anita only just about gets away with eating it, the lads (when they are around) rarely get to eat the "posh" stuff.

God knows what I'll feed him.
Curry sounds like a plan, though.
Thinking pizza ... chinese ... kebabs ... got all them local Laughing
That'll do.
Got beer already, anyway.
I can always go and buy more steak for next week, eh.

I'll just send Anita out for fags and we'll be fine.

Top man. Mr. Green Thumbs Up I actually have some of those Fray Bentos things in the cupboard: they were a quid each at Asda's last week, so I stocked up, I was gonna give them to Andy.

Pies, yeah, good move.

if you are going shopping, asda stock pukka pies

pukka pies are ace

the filling is just right, really meaty and succulent, and the gravy is equally yummy

the combination of lovely crispy puff pastry top, with suet pudding base is ace

much better than your normal pie, and they come in one person size

Can't beat a nice meat and potato pie, especially homemade if you like cooking Cool

Us northerners aren't like you southerners, we like food regardless of whether it is healthy or not, if it tastes good then we will eat it.

Fish and Chips!

although, if you are going to feed him that, then you'll have to get them delivered from Yorkshire, because my god, the ones in London are shite!

Other than that, we mainly eat a mix of coal, spam, gravy and whippet all stuck in a blender for 3 minutes.

Northeners all seem to think their fish and chips are the best, but the fact is they are shite. The best chippys are all on the south coast at the beaches.

When I went to Blackpool I had this god awful roast as well.

I find that northerners are generally very fussy eaters and that sausages, chips, beans and maybe a fish finger from grimsby is all they will eat. I live with this Northern girl and she won't eat Pizza cause it is foreign, likes the smell of curry but immediately dismisses the idea that it would taste nice. Fact is if we want to go out for a meal, it always has to be on her terms. My insides are killing for a decent Italian meal, but meh.

BUTTIES! Very Happy

Make sure you have unsliced white bread in the house and you'll be just fine, as in my very limited experience (first boyfriend was from Morecambe Rolling Eyes ) a Northerner will eat anything once it's in a familiar buttie!!

HTH - Have a great weekend all and enjoy the gig! Very Happy

Quoted for truth.

Just don't feed him any of that Southern nancy-boy food, make it a proper portion, and make him sit on the hardest chair you've got, cos we Northerners don't like comfort much.

My arse. Best fish and chips are in Whitby. You've got to have shite weather before you can really appreciate fish and chips.

Just do a chippy tea and everything should be sorted. You will need to provide mushy peas tho if your southern chippy is devoid of them, cos they are essential. Oh and black puddings if he's from Oldham Razz

Nothing poncey like pesto or whatever, else he goes "WTF! Am Im supposed to eat this or is it for the bike?"

Pizza is good especially with or before or after beer. A visit to the curry house similarly. Severely inbred areas in the north may disagree. Check if they drag their knuckles on the floor first. Mr. Green

...but not your southern wussy dishwater beer.

Get some bottles of Theakstons or Black Sheep in.
I do believe they export south of Watford, although obviously only to the more discerning areas.
