Motorway 1st timer!!

Well for the past hour I've zoomed 30miles down the M1 3 junctions and back up again for xmas shopping purposes. My first time on a motorway and found it strangely peaceful, except for the sidewind that is!

It's a mad feeling and I think I held my legs too tense as my thighs were a bit painful on the way back. The SLR is not really a motorway bike though and lack of any wind protection makes it a bit awkward to control. I was impressed with the acceleration at 70+ though, didn't think she had it in her!

Aye, the motorway was a bit of an anticlimax for me too. Just like a dual carriageway with blue signs, a hard shoulder and wider lanes. It's easy to get bored on long motorway trips so keep your mind active.

same as bigwill if im going on the motorway time to bring out the Ipod. It helps me focus better as there is something to keep my mind on. When i don't have it i get bored very very easily.

The day i passed my test was my first time on motorway, just seemed important to do it as soon as i was legal to.

I enjoyed for some reason, even on a 2 stroke 125 and i overtook a couple of cars

There was a 50mph limt at the time but still.............

I find the motorway extremely boring, but you cant relax as much as in a car so its a pain in the arse. Although i think my neck grew after my first motorway journey fookin wind lol

When I first got insured on the Hornet I went on a 300 mile rideout. Part of that involved 5 miles of Motorway.

A) Get the experience
B) Have fun.

Did A and it was easy. I never understood why people are scared of motorways and I still don't

B however... I was like "WTF?!"

Go off the next junction and went exploring. Now I only take the motorway if I have to. Like if I have to rush. If I've got a bit of time then I'll make an interesting route around it. Takes longer, but so much more worth it.

The 1st time I ventured the motorway was on my way down to my brother's in Shoreham-By-Sea via the M25.

When I got on it, be it only for one junction, I felt so small and insignificant. I really felt like a vulnerable target.

The second time I went down though (which I think was the following week) was a completely different story.

I'm happy plodding along on the motorway if I'm going somewhere in particular, if not then I avoid any kind of dual carriageway.

Motorways are generally the easiest way of getting from a to b. Leave more space than you would on a slower road and watch out for people moving into your space. esp vans and trucks

anyone who gets bored riding on a motorway can't be concentrating very hard ...

i live by J6 of the M6, you have absolutely no time to get bored around here as there's way too much traffic to be bored in ...

i must say i hate lane hoggers tho and will undertake as and when i see fit ...

tonight was particularly interesting, had to go to Smethwick and back (24 mile round journey) the M6 was like a parking lot and filtered all of it in both directions, courteous car and van drivers all the way moving over (always wave thanks), i really enjoyed the ride

Riding on the motorway is a very weird experience when you are on it in the middle of the night and there is no other car for miles around. It's just you and 6 lanes of nothing. Gets even more surreal when it is unlit. I guess after being in a car on a motorway loads of times in the day, it's such a contrast on your own on a bike in the middle of the night when there is nothing on there.
