Problem with a CBR125R - is it the regulator??

Hi. I am helping a mate who has a CBR125R.

About a month ago it was drooped into a flood on a road (best not to ask). Anyway, the bike was started again but the battery had discharged. I put it on my optimate and let that sort that out. re-installed the battery and all was well for a few days. However the bike now won't start and the battery is discharged again.

The bike has no alarm or anything else that should discharge the battery so quickly. I can jump start it, but I have noticed some strange things...

The lights get brighter between 2000-3000 RPM.
The indicators seem to be flashing quickly.
at tick over the lights flicker

I am wondering if it needs a new regulator-rectifier?
The Optimate says the battery is ok, but may be being overcharged/undercharged by the bike.

Will check the voltages later, but does this sound right to anyone else or should I be looking at another culprit?

I'd start with a new battery - if it's been underwater for any length of time, the acid in the battery has probably been contaminated, changing the acid may work but I suspect it's ruined. The battery acts as a big smoothing capacitor for the charging system, so that might explain the flickering etc.

You should also make sure all other fluids in the bike have been changed, possibly more than once, there will be a lot of water lurking around inside it.

Voltages where... interesting.....

11v from the battery....

but when the engine was running the needle looked like it was getting a negative current?...

as elma fud would say "there is something vevy scwooy going on arround here"

11V battery = broken battery.
broken battery = impossible to diagnose charging problems.

its not dead... its just resting...scare easily the norwegian blue...

Mr Honda says he will put it on his specal charger to see if the battery can be sorted.. if not its £47 for a genuine replacement.

(Suzuki wanted 60 so its good value)
