indication....

Given that this is basically what I failed on, I'd like to know what you guys think is appropriate indication.

So assuming a 100m straight with no exits other than the one you intend to take, no sidestreets etc, how early should you indicate, and how early should you do your osm routine.

Should you try to allow 5-10 flashes before you actually take the turn etc?

I'm thinking, when the examiner says, take the next right, etc, I should basically be getting ready to indicate soon after? Good idea?

Your indication mustnt mislead other motorists. That is the main rule of when to put it on

So indicate when you are passed other junctions and when your indication doesnt make other road users think you are pulling up at the side of the road.

So round town, as soon as you see your junction, or about 10 car lengths before
On motorways and larger roads double the distance or so.


Examiners will tend to take you a route that has close junctions, in this case indicate once you are half passed the junction before so your indication cant be seen as a late indication to turn.

Other motorists shouldnt take your indication as set in stone, it is only an indication. It is mainly to help the cars behind you so they can expect you to be slowing down / changing road position

I agree with howling. Don't you just hate it when you see a car indicate a fraction of a second before they decide to put there brakes on and turn into a road half a car length ahead of them. As if they had a passenger telling them 'NO noo no! its this left!'
