I've been having a few problems with my battery lately. A couple of weeks ago after a chilly night it wouldn't start in the morning. I put it on charge overnight and it started fine the following day.

Last week i wasn't using my bike for 3 days, so i didn't bother putting the battery on charge. Its been sat in the garage for 3 or 4 days while its been very cold weather.

I was planning on using my bike today, so put it on charge last night and for most of today, but when i went to start it, it wouldn't start up.

I'm quite surprised it wouldn't start, as i've charged it a number of times overnight and its been fine the next day.

Has numerous charges caused the battery to completely die?

It's about a year old.

take the battery back to where you brought it from and get it tested also check if your bike is charging by putting a volt meter across the terminals you should get around 14 volts with the engine running. batterys if faulty will always die in cold weather make sure all connections and terminals are clean and tight.

what kind of battery charger have you got? Is it just a basic trickle charger or is it a more intelligent maintainer/charger like the optimate?

If it's a basic trickle charger you shouldn't be leaving it on overnight.... you can cook the battery that way as it won't stop charging it... it'll carry on until you unplug it.

Have you got a multimeter? Put it up to the battery on 20V DC setting and see what the voltage of the battery is (it should be 12.3-13.3 ish). Now turn the ignition on, it should drop about a volt. Now press the starter.... what voltage does it read whilst you're pressing the button? It should go down about another 2v, if it goes stupidly low go to a garage with a "battery mate" charger and see if they can revive the battery for you.
