Tommorow I have the pleasure of having to tackle Swindons Magic Roundabout.

Is it as confusing as it looks?

I'll be in the car BTW.

Simple as just make sure you know before hand which exit you want, take a creative route it makes it more fun.

Just constantly give way to the right and go when there's a gap, you'll be fine.

No. It's actually a brilliant design that does a great job of keeping traffic flowing through a busy part of town.

If you're concerned atall (which you shouldn't be) you can literally just drive round the outer bit of it and still get to the other side of it.

To what reason do you owe having the privilage of visiting this gene-pool recking shithole anyhow?

The roundabout is actually a piece of piss. All you need to do is observe what's going on and you'll manage it just fine. It's not actually as big as pictures make it look.

We've got a similar Magic Roundabout here in sunny Hemel:
Google map here
I believe the one in Swindon pre-dates the one here in Hemel, but the principle is the same - basically treat each mini-roundabout individually as you would normally, but be aware of where you want to exit. Also, you can go around the main central 'roundabout' (not actually a roundabout at all) either way.

It's a good idea, but as most people can't negotiate one mini-roundabout at a time (let alone a series of 6), it doesn't work so well in practice - especially at peak times where idiots block the roundabouts (when they do not have a clear exit) and it generally buggers it up for everyone.

Good luck.

Thumbs Up

Hemel Hempstead one is just as bad as its a little bigger. Just treat each round about as individual ones. You can go anyway round the whole thing as long as you go the right way around each mini round about.

I think having traffic lights on the roundabout would have been a much better idea rather than all those mini ones - who designs these things?!

The same idiot responsible for most inefficient road systems I imagine, probably takes the train to work as well.

The one in hemel is worse by a long way from my experience, i've used both. Generally, nobody is going fast enough round them to have an accident, but it does happen occasionally.

Basically, to hell with giving way, take no prisoners. Just don't sit in the middle of it when you have nowhere to go.

Far as I know the amount of accidents has reduced since they converted it from a roundabout to the crazy magic one they have now.

How did you get on?

I have been around the one in Hemel many times. My (now ex) sister-in-law used to live near there. It was weird the first time, but you soon get used to it.

It actually works remarkably well.
