Hello everyone,

Recently when going about in the car or on my bike I've noticed a couple of cars that made me think they were a bit iffy.

First example: I was coming back to York from Scarborough and came up behind a Volvo doing about 75 ish on the A64. Had a funny feeling about it and so sat behind him, looked in and didnt look like an unmarked copper. No aerials, only one mirror, no funny looking boxes or anything, but it just didnt feel right. He came off at the next slip road and i peeked in and woe and behold two coppers in black vests. Made me grin to myself!

Then the other night driving home from Strensall area in the car and a car followed me off a roundabout, but it was pitch black out and all I could see was big headlight glare. Mentioned to my mates in the car that I reckoned the guy behind us was a copper, and a few seconds later I saw that he was on the next roundabout, and said I bet he pulls me and he did!

Same thing happened tonight, in mums car and a volvo came onto the roundabout behind us and I said to mum I bet he's a copper and she asked why, I just said I had a feeling, and at the next lights I turned out to be right!

Its weird, none of them have been obviously cops, and nothings given them away, I've just been so lucky with having a feeling that they are and being right!

I guess I'm just getting the knack for it! Very Happy

Anyone else had a similar experience?

I had that actually this morning. Was in my car doing just over 30mph (in a 30mph) and was about to put my foot down a bit when the slower person in front turned off but had a funny feeling that I shouldnt and then 10 secs later a copper comes the other way. Well wierd...and not the first time its happened!

I can usually spot them a mile away, especially Volvos, they're too easy.

First thing I look at if I see a Volvo under 5 years old is has it got a towbar? Most Volvos do, cop Volvos don't.

If it doesn't have a towbar, are they're any dealership stickers in the back window? Nope? Looking like a cop car now.

Shaded areas around the edge of the window? Bingo! Spotted.

Usually takes approx half a second to spot an unmarked Volvo, but I apply the aforementioned logic to any common coloured Volvo, Mondeo, Omega, Octavia etc etc.

I'm confident I know all the unmarked cars that are used in the Stoke on Trent area. (I've seen a 54 reg silver V70 estate, 03 black Octavia VRS, 08 silver BMW E60 saloon, 08 black Vectra and a 97/98 dark blue BMW E39 which I don't think is used for traffic).

Manchester Police have started using 3 door Audi A3s though, which I suspect will catch a few people out.

Sidelights are a giveaway, went to do an overtake on the M5 today and saw sidelights in my mirror at 11am, waited for a second only to be passed by an unmarked skoda.

Cheers
John

A dead giveaway is like the unmarked vectra I followed on the FZ.

I was about 3 cars behind, then we turned off and it was just me and them, and they sped right up to about 80 down this long country lane. I just got up to 60 and let them accelerate away whilst shaking my head.

A27 Silver Merc I tend to slow down.
Anything silver I tend to slow down a tad Laughing
Few weeks back a roundabout in Chichester, normally come off the exit and hoon it to the next.
I just had that feeling, and So glad I did - CCTV Van in the next lay-by.
Then going home the next day I had the same feeling comming into portsmouth and noticed a car, sitting oddly on hatchlings - went past, then a cop bike at the next exit.
