Well it was bound to happen, just glad i'm still here to talk about it.
What can I say except I pushed the envelope too far.
Baldock - Buntingford road, hit the curb bike flips in to a field i flip on to the curb head first (thankyou nitro helmets).
First thing I saw when I came to was a car driving past, the fuckers.
miraculosley neither me or the bike where too damaged (few friction burns and some cracks), I think the mud helped there since the bike was imbedded in it as was I.
I feel very lucky and have a new respect for the bike.
I noticed when I was driving slowly after the crash that at lots of corners there where little bunches of flowers growing.
New bikers be carefull, we're not as good as we think we are and you only find out when its too late.

Yeah I used to have a Nitro, did it's job well.
Sorry to hear about the crash mate, but at least neither of you are too badly hurt. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

Sorry to sound a bit off, but glad you and the bike aint too bad....
A lot of crashes can be saved. Usually the bike will turn tighter, stop quicker or go around the obstruction.
It's often your evelope that you're pushing rather than the bikes.
Just mentioning this because if you go away thinking you're pushing the bike, you'll probably find it happening again when it is infact you that has to learn about how bikes work.
For instane I recently came off my dr600. Went into a corner I knew too fast (on the outside of the corner, so no one to crash into if I did do something stupid). As I started turning I realised my line led to the pavement, so managed to lean more, but didn't take account of the gravel at the side of the road. Completely my fault for being a twat really. I did know the bike can lean more as well, as I've got it over a lot more when foot-out rather than knee down.
Unfortuantely it's quite hard to condition yourself to think when you see pavement rushing at you.
Two books that might interest you:
Motorcycle Roadcraft: A police Riders Hand boook* - How to ride safely and fast on the raod, including 'reading corners etc'.
A Twist of the Wrist 2 - How to avoid the survival reactions that make us do stupid things.
* or something like that
Saying all that, I crashed my cg125 a lot and I think I'm probably a better rider for it; most of them were low speed as you'd expect on a cg125; and I got an idea of what goes wrong etc.
Apart from one incident last year all my recent crashes have been me twatting around, mostly in industrial estates etc. |

It was an nsr 01, but yeah I know it was me not the bike. I got to a point in the corner where I was sure I couldnt make it (target fixation) so I thought i'd try and go over the curb and on to the field. However at an angle and 70mph this does not work. Wish i'd bought 2 piece zip togethers cos the jacket road up.
Thanks to all for support.
I know people have had worse so feel a bit silly bout talking like its a "crash".
Oh yeah, took the bike apart after mainly just to see what it looked like and its all sorted now, if not better. Just needs a lick o' paint and it'll be all good. ____________________ Enjoy Life There's Plenty of Time to be Dead

One thing thats always useful to remember is that if your heading for a curbe (or a big ditch into a potato field) you stand the best chance if you hit it exactly head on. I know someone who hit a curbe at 90mph and stayed on, and i have been up one at 50mph on a RS125 and stayed on (it wasnt a low curbe either)
Obviously once mid lean on a bend its hard to hit the curbe square on, but its something to keep in mind if ever you find your self heading towards one.
Very pleased to hear your ok, and the bike isnt too bad |
